I just completed my 2014 book and had a huge revelation as I looked back through the whole year.
Too many photos. Not enough journaling.
For example: so many pics of DS looking happy at camp with the journaling, "Great day at camp!" But nowhere did I record the story of how this was a mixed year for DS. I was always overjoyed to pick him up looking so happy in the moment, but knowing that I would later have tears and frustration as he talked about the rest of his day. It really was a difficult summer. But not captured anywhere in my book. And when we look back at the summer of 2014, it's going to look like it was all roses and sunshine.
For 2015, I'm going to take fewer photos and write more. It's going to be a journal with photos, not photos with journaling, if that makes sense.
Did you have a revelation this year (or previous years)? What was it? How are you changing / did change?

Congrats on finishing a whole year! That's a huge accomplishment! I still have many empty weeks in my 2014 album. I'll get to them eventually, lol.
For 2015, I'm going to keep it more simple - don't spend too much time embellishing the cards; try to stick with one core kit per weekly spread; take daily notes so that journaling is easier.

I just finished week 29 of 2014.
In 2013 I did a picture a day and had SO MANY PHOTOS!
For 2014 I didn't do photo a day - and still have enough pictures. I also look back & see that my journaling is just hitting the highlights. I struggle with putting the not great/negative stuff out there about my kids. My book is for both of them & I don't want to put something one is going through out for the other to read or bring up bad memories later.
All that to say that I would like to tell more stories in 2015 & focus on more meaningful photos.

I have JUST decided today, that I am not doing a traditional PL album this year. I am either going to go with the PL app and do digital pages, OR what I'm leaning towards doing is a Shutterfly book that I can work on all year long. I am most familiar with Shutterfly photo books so I figure I could create the book now and add as I go along throughout the year.
I am deciding that while I enjoy making the traditional albums, I do not like all the room they are taking up in my house. It's only DH and myself, so who the heck is going to want all these monster albums?? I like the minimalist idea, and this way I am much more likely to keep up to date and not fall 6 months behind like I am right now.

I didn't do PL, but I'm not making big scrapbooks anymore. I'm doing Shutterfly books. I still love to scrapbook, but I'm scanning the layouts and putting them in Shutterfly books for my shelves. The original layouts can stay in big binders in the back room.
