Please remember that only episode 1&2 have aired here in the US.
This thread contains SPOILERS for episodes 1&2.
------
I can't believe Jimmy actually has to leave. Poor guy.
I must admit I'm a bit fatigued at the idea of another Mr. Bates charged with murder storyline. I hope it doesn't come to that.
Surely the farmer's wife must have an inkling that there's a reason Lady Edith would take an interest in an " orphan" child.

I'm curious why, if they're spending several days together to see if they're sexually compatible, Mary only had Anna pick up one. And I have a feeling it'll get back to Mr Bates somehow.
Eta: I'm guessing it was a condom that Anna picked up.

Eta: I'm guessing it was a condom that Anna picked up. Because I think it was a diaphragm Which is why the shopkeeper said it was tricky to get in place

Doing some research, the book Mary showed Anna is a real book and it recommended a kind of sponge as birth control.

Even if it was a condom that was purchased, In those days condoms were reusable, so she would only purchased one.

I was thinking diaphragm too, but the after show did make a sponge-worthy joke.
Whatever happens on that show, nothing beats the Dowager and Isabel!

Oh gosh, my favorite was when Lord Grantham complained to Cora about the painting guy flirting with the dog!!!

I thought the episode was a little boring. I agree about Mr. Bates -- please don't take us down that road again! ugh.

Was Thomas involved in Baxter's theft on her previous job? It's obvious there's more to that story. It would suit me fine if they had the Dowager in more scenes. I find her droll sarcasm hilarious.

I feel like they have all become caricatures of themselves. They need to add some freshness to the series because the script - and especially the dialogue - feels contrived.

I agree I really, really don't want another Bates murder plot line and I don't want see a Bates/Anna rift over the birth control either. I also feel the whole thing is becoming a bit stagnant. The Dowager and Isobel are the only interesting characters at all right now.

left turn only---you mentioned an AFTER SHOW.....what??? There's an after show??? It was sweet how Jimmy was so sincere about wanting Thomas to find happiness.....! And how SWEET that Carson is so bothered by his disagreement with Mrs. .....awwww, he's SO enamored with her.....sweet! They remind me so much of that movie "Remains of the Day"...... Oh, and the dog comment.....LOL!!! I read something in "People" magazine that I would NEVER tell my fellow fans, because I think they made a huge boo-boo and gave a spoiler without any warning... and now it's all I can think about It was a GENERAL REVIEW of the season, which should NOT contain spoilers!!! If what they said comes true this season, I am gonna be mad.....ugh!

I am still loving the show but I am a little tired of being beaten over the head with how times are changing, yet Robert keeps resisting. We get it. Everyone keeps reinforcing the same thing.
I'm sure Mr Bates will find the birth control book and Anna will have to explain...
Mrs Housekeeper, her name escapes me now, sure looked guilty when the cops were there...haha, now THAT would be a good story.
Get rid of the rude teacher. I hate her. Basic manners are never old-fashioned, and if she has to be an asshole to be with the modern times, I'm on Lord Grantham's side.
The amount of planning and discussion going on beforehand between Mary and Gillingham made me squirm. Talk about killing the mood. I don't find any of Mary's suitors especially sexy, though. I'd have been much more likely to strip down Sir Richard (Ser Jorah, for us GoT-ers) off in the woods on one of those shooting parties and order him to call me Khaleesi.
