Not sure if anyone remembers but a few weeks ago I was freaking out about some test results that we got on my DH. Quick recap - DH going on travel, gets off plane before it departs and wants to go to doc-in-a-box. DIAB takes blood and tells us we need to go to the ER immediately with no stops. ER runs more tests and sends us to see a specialist at the local cancer center. Hematologist at cancer center says he is concerned with blood work. DH has an enlarged spleen, white cell count is literally just above zero and his platelets are just as bad. Needs to get a CT and stay home for next week while taking a high dose antibiotic then come back to find out CT results and more blood work. UPDATE - the CT confirmed that his spleen was enlarged as well as a few lymph nodes. Doc liked that the numbers were improving after the antibiotics, but they weren't going up quickly so he says that DH can go back to work, but can't travel and has to come back for more blood work in two weeks. Fast forward two weeks and numbers are still improving come back in two more weeks to see if he's cleared for travel. That appointment was last friday and his numbers were still going up so he was cleared for travel and on monday morning left for a business trip. He has to go back in August for a repeat CT and blood work. He is feeling much better and although his numbers are still low, they are climbing slowly closer to the appropriate range for white cells and platelets. When we were there last week the doc said he's going to write a white paper on the case because in his over 30 years in specialty as a hematologist, he has never seen a case like this. I turned to my DH and told him that this is just the confirmation that I needed after 20 years of telling him that he's not normal - it will now be documented medical proof that I was correct

Glad to hear he is on the mend. I wonder what started the whole illness. I hope it was an anomaly and you can put it all in the past.

Ditto Judy26... I hope it was just a flukey thing and that it doesn't cause problems again.

I am so glad he is doing well! That's great news! What exactly does "write a white paper" mean?

Wow have they any idea of the reason for that? and what symptoms did he have to make him to go the dr to start with? It's great to hear that he's continuing to improve.

I am so glad he is doing well! That's great news! What exactly does "write a white paper" mean? He wants to write a case study on him. I always inexplicably use the two terms interchangeably haha. He finds it very curious that my DH had all of the symptoms but no actual diagnosable illness.

No actual diagnosis could be made. He felt ill for a few days and stayed home from work knowing he was going to be traveling the following monday. After being layed up for 4 days prior we headed to the airport thinking that he would be fine to travel. He got really lightheaded and felt flush while waiting for the plane to taxi and decided he shouldn't travel. He was just really tired and felt nauseous for the 4 days leading up to this.
