Last night, I spent at least one hour looking at Canon Selphy reviews on YouTube and it is the craziest thing, each one of them shows how to use it, how to print from your phone, blah, blah, blah but then they barely hold up the picture so I could never really see the quality. Also! Only one person out of like 20 videos printed a pic from a DSLR. They were all phone photos and annoyingly, many of them even kept saying, "This isn't a very good photo." Well why in this world are you doing a review of a photo printer and printing a photo that is not a good photo? Hellur! People do not think things through. So....does anyone have a picture they have had professionally printed that is a GREAT quality photo from a DSLR and you have the same photo printed from a Selphy? I want a Selphy but I want to see what a great picture printed on it looks like, not a crappy one. I can't tell if the quality is based on the crappy photo or if it's a crappy printer which I don't think it is but who would know???

@tracieclairborne I got a Selphy for Christmas and I am extremely picky...it is AMAZING. I have printed pics from my phone, and PC. I have printed photos taken with my phone and my DSLR. Both were fabulous, far higher quality than you get at pretty much any lab I have seen lately. You Tube Review This girl prints a gorgeous photo from a memory card that was taken with a DSLR. She also prints black and white photos, phone photos and talks a lot about the Selphy in general. It is a long video, she prints the DSLR photo around the 30 minute mark. It is of some boats at the seashore. I can tell you seriously the photos are AMAZING quality. They are so good in fact, I have gotten over the fact that they are glossy (I normally prefer pearl finish). Best gift my Mother in Law has ever gotten me. I don't even care they cost more per print... I can try to take a pic or two of what I have printed, but I don't know if that would show you exactly what you want to see. I just finished a layout with a pic I printed from my Selphy. I didn't know I was getting the Selphy for Xmas so I sent out pics to my normal Instagram printer (Origrami). I just asked my husband which print was better and he said the Selphy was better in particular he said the colour was better, and he liked the gloss finish. I can take a photo of them next to each other, but it is not a DSLR photo, just one from my phone (but I think it is a nice pic none the less).

impearia Can I ask if the prints are a true 4 x 6 or actually a bit smaller?

LisaDorothy They are slightly smaller probably 3 31/32 " x 5 7/8" If that makes sense. I checked them in some WRMK pocket pages and they fit pretty well in the 4 inch side but are a bit loose in the 6 inch side. I don't really do pocket scrapping (I accidentally bought some pocket pages, lol) so I don't know if this is why you are asking but I thought I would check for you.

Yes, I second the positive reviews. Got a Selphy in Nov. for my birthday, and am really enjoying it. I am amazed at the technology that allows me to print my phone pics via the wifi connection, and I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of the prints. I also print using the sd card from my point and shoot, easy as can be. The price is just about the same as using the Fuji kiosk at Walmart without having to go there.
Minor drawback is the print size. As mentioned above, a bit smaller than true 4x6, but not a big problem for me. Mine came from Amazon, so no tax or shipping, and the price was good. I love my Selphy!

Another satisfied Selphy owner. I bought mine off Amazon too in November specifically for my December Daily album. So easy to use and the prints are great. Now I will say if a print comes out and doesn't seem the best, it's not the printers fault. It's mine, the sucky photographer, who doesn't know all the rules abut taking a great pic. LOL!
I've had a couple of photo printers prior to the Selphy and this is the first one where I feel comfortable putting the pics in an album. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

The actual print size is on the Canon website in the description of the Selphy- sorry I can't link now. Prints from DSLR cards come out great, and if I recall you can also use a USB thumb drive. Most people probably do a review about phone prints because it's an amazing feature! I get your frustration though. You provide so many casual and official reviews , it's got to be extra buggy to you. Thanks for all you do for our community, Tracey.

I pretty much use my Selphy exclusively for printing photos to scrap, and most of them were taken with my 35mm camera. The only 'con' I have about it is also the lack of true 4x6 size (it still bugs me occasionally, but I've gotten used to it).
The other main one is that sometimes the prints come out with a strange blob or line of color which I attribute to maybe a piece of dust or fuzz on the paper as it's printing that catches the ink film?? Not sure; if they're really obvious I'll re-print the photo, but otherwise I just leave them as-is.

I have a selphy and an epson printer...when I print the exact sa!me photo from my DSLR the selphy is just a hint less brighter than the Epson...but that can be changed in settings. Another thing about the selphy is because its not an inkjet printer the photo is heat set and they are pretty tough photos. Like if I put adhesive on top I can rub it off ( my ATG gun) and it doesn't effect the picture. Trust me this has come in handy more than once.

I will be the odd person out here. I have an Epson printer (the pro 3880) and a Selphy. I am very happy to have my selphy. I can print photos from my iPad or my daughter's phone without hassle, and the quality is good. They are great for handing out to people, and, while I don't really like glossy pictures generally, they beat the glossy photos I got from Walgreens back in the day, for sure. But there is a pretty big difference, color wise, between what comes out of my Epson and what comes out of my selphy. My selphy photos tend to come out over saturated and a bit dark, and it is more noticeable for pictures with a lot of sky. The pictures from my Epson look like what I see on my screen. Again, I like it and I would buy it again, but I definitely notice the color difference.

I did have an Epson Picturemate and LOVED the quality of the prints but the printer heads clogged constantly. Do you have trouble or is yours not a Picturemate?

I love my Selphy. It is amazing to print out a picture so fast and easy. DH loves it too. We always snap pics of our grandson so I always have cute pics to scrap.

yeah, I do have issues with the photos printing darker than on the screen, as well. Usually it's not that much of a big deal, but I have had to edit and reprint some photos just for that reason. Not very often, but if you're looking at it from a cost per print standpoint, some of my photos end up costing upwards of $1, if you factor in having to reprint the odd one due to those kinds of issues. For me, the convenience factor far outweighs those issues, because I NEVER send photos out for batch printing, and I quite often make photo decisions at the last minute during my scrapping process.

I have the Picturemate and the selphy. I do notice a difference . I notice that the selphy prints a wee bit darker, but that can be corrected. But what I really notice is I prefer The skin tone quality of my Picturemate. It is more true . When comparing them side by side you really notice the difference. Quality wise I prefer the Epsom hands down. But I also hate my Epsom too. Those darn nozzles clog. I have to keep speaking them. The selphy I never have that problem, even when it is not in use for months. I can print wirelessly, and I think I think that printer Iis much more user friendly to use. The reason I have both is I bought the selphy for my daughter to use, so She would not use my Picturemate. I find myself using her selphy more then my Picturemate. If I am printing portraits it is my Picturemate ,everyday shots selphy.

I printed portraits I took with my Canon DSLR and the skin tones and colour was amazing. I do believe I checked the box for smooth skin though. I did also Photo shop my DSLR pics first, but I always do with portraits.

I'm not a Selphy fan. I bought mine with Christmas money and so far I'm less than impressed. The only photos I have printed have been ones shot with a DSLR and the quality is definitely not even close to the ones I print from Costco. I admit that I prefer matte prints, and for that reason alone I almost didn't buy it, but I wanted to be able to use it for scrapping and not have to wait for the weekend to pick up my prints from Costco., but I can't bring myself to use the photos printed with my Selphy.

I keep thinking about the Selphy because I have an old Picturemate and although I love the quality of photos, I do hate that the heads clog all the time. I also have a 12x12 Epson printer that's about 15-ish years old that has the same issue. If you don't use them regularly, the heads clog & you waste so much ink.

I read that if you unplug it and plug it back in, you waste a sheet. Is this true?
I want to get it for travel but I'd never print a whole pack of photos at one sitting so I'm afraid it would be a huge waste.

I read that if you unplug it and plug it back in, you waste a sheet. Is this true? I want to get it for travel but I'd never print a whole pack of photos at one sitting so I'm afraid it would be a huge waste. Maybe if you unplugged it while it was printing. I've never just unplugged it though without taking the paper tray out and turning it off first. You don't have to use the whole pack of paper/ink at once. That's a big reason why I bought one, because I don't print photos at home very often. Since this is a dye-sub printer there are no inkjets or nozzles to clog or ink tanks that will dry out. I had an Epson PictureMate and because I didn't use it often enough, the nozzles were always clogged, it wasted so much ink and the stupid thing never worked right. I ended up chucking it in the trash. I prefer the matte finish photos from Costco and that's usually where I'll print my photos, but more often than not when I'm right in the middle of something and need a couple photos to do a project or finish something, that's just not convenient. Or I'll be at a retreat or crop and nowhere close to a Costco, so for those times the Selphy is great in a pinch. The only thing is, I need to make a little laminated tag to attach to the camera bag I carry it in to remind me to pack an extension cord and power strip when I bring it. Last time I went to a crop I forgot to bring an extension cord and that kind of defeated the purpose of bringing it!

impearia Can I ask if the prints are a true 4 x 6 or actually a bit smaller? Sometimes instead of cutting or snapping the photo off at the perforated edges, I just use a paper cutter at the edge of where it prints and the photo is a little closer to true 4x6. The perforations are tiny and it doesn't bother me that they're there.

I have heard so many conflicting reports about the Canon Selphy, most of the time the reviews go something like "When it works, it's great but it is inconsistant." I have heard that the photo quality is good, but that the Epson Photomate is better. Personally, the Canon Selphy was $50, and my Canon Pixma was $80, I can buy photo paper at Costco for $15 and I also buy my ink at Costco and I print a TON at home (both scrapbooking and Project Life) so I go through the color inks once every 2 months. My Canon Pixma prints 4x6 photos from a tray separate from my 8x11 paper so I don't have to constantly switch it out. My biggest issue with going against the Selphy, the photos aren't true 4x6, they are slightly smaller and I know that would drive me bonkers.

I used to have a Canon Pixma ages ago...the print quality was great, but they weren't waterproof/archival quality really. I found this out when a photo in one of my older albums got a waterdrip on it and bled everywhere! Are they waterproof/archival in the newer printers? I had a Pixma I loved, it go old and I replaced it with a newer one which went through SO much ink it was not worth it to print anything anymore. No idea why the newer version drank ink. I then switched to only doing prints in labs until I got this new Selphy.

I'm bumping this up because I am thinking about getting a Selphy. I have a nice Epson all in one printer but I would like a dedicated printer for my scrapping and smashing. I take a lot of photos with my iPhone and this sounds like it would be perfect for me.

I have a Selphy and I love it. I never keep it plugged in and it takes 2 seconds to set it up. If I have ever had a problem with the" printer not found" type of message it's usually fixed with me shutting off my iphone and turning it back on.

I have a Selphy and I absolutely love it! I've never had a problem with it and I love the convenience of it. The not true 4x6 size bothered me when doing PL but I've gotten used to it. I usually put it on a white mat so it looks like a border.
But I recently read in a FB PL group that the photos will fade over time. I haven't found much information saying the photos are indeed fade resistant so it's worrying me. But the Epson Charm says it is fade resistant and I found an article where they tested a bunch of different printers to see which faded. Selphy did terrible. It convinced me enough to save up for an Epson Picture Mate Charm.
