Tomorrow I start a dream job for me! It is like be careful what you wish for because it just might come true and it did for me. It has been over 10 years since I have had a full time job with benefits but in that time I have worked multiple part time jobs to have flexibility for my kids. Now my kids are older (12 and 9) and I am ready for this!
It is weird to know this is a great opportunity for me, but I go back to what about my kids, will they be ok? It must be Mommy guilt and fear of the unknown.
So any words of advice? I have been getting ready for a few day, all my clothes are ready, nails done, had a fun day at water park with kids, paperwork all together and about to take the dogs for a long walk. I think I'll plan to go for lunch until I make some new friends

You may not be properly introduced to everyone, so you if run into people in the kitchen smile and introduce yourself. My first week at work I just walked up to people and asked them to lunch, a different person each day. In the beginning it's easy to do that and you get to know people 1-on-1 and learn some office dirt. I think no one is going to say no to the new person.

Congrats on your new job! Don't worry about being nervous. Almost everyone is the first day or even for a while afterwards. Just smile and be friendly to everyone. You will do great!

The best advice I ever got was to be nice to everyone. You never know who they are, who they are friends with, who they sleep with. Smile, have a strong handshake and enjoy it. Congratulations!

1/ Your kids will be FINE 2/ No matter how dumb some of your colleagues are, take care not to point it out on your first day 3/ Don't eat or drink anything before you go to work that will entice any of the bodily functions you prefer to keep very private 4/ Check your teeth in a mirror after you eat lunch 5/ Don't joke with anyone about anyone else until you know who you can trust (or have enough dirt on them) 6/ Deep breath before you go in, remember how awesome you are (which is WHY you got the job) and enjoy!! GOOD LUCK!!!

Plan on being exhausted the first couple of weeks. Being on your best behavior is hard work as is learning so many new procedures. Plan as few extra activities as possible and deligate chores at home. Good luck!

Congratulations on your new job! You've gotten lots of great advice. I am pretty much doing what you have been doing-various part time jobs and now putting feelers out for something full time now that my kids are getting older. Good luck and let us know how your first week goes!

Congratulations on the new job! My best advice is take lots of notes while you are being trained to their system of doing things. That way you don't have to ask a bunch of questions once your trainer is done training you. Also, don't tell anyone you have a "better" way of doing something right away. Just slowly change over to your way after a couple weeks.
Smile and be you! I hope you love your new job!

Congratulations!!
DH always tells his interns -'you're not going to learn it all in one day' let alone the first week' and don't be afraid to ask ??'s. He was training two new people last month and one kept apologizing for asking ??. He said he would rather have them ask and learn it the right way than do it the wrong way and ask ?? later.

Our company is on its fourth assistant to the owner in three years because they didn't take time to learn their responsibilities, but jumped in to the position like bulls out of the pen. Just be yourself and enjoy this new experience.

Don't participate in office gossip and be yourself.
