The CEO is leaving this message on different Facebook groups. Basically the Cricut Explore Air is just an Explore with an intergrated bluetooth. DS is being overhauled to make improvements.
Dear Cricut Users
Apologies for the long post but want to ensure that all the information comes out accurately.
We have been working feverishly in improving the performance of Design Space (for PC/MAC). We will be releasing the site sometime in the February timeframe. This release is focused on upgrading the experience for Cricut Explore. There are not too many new features but the focus is on reducing shockwave errors, streamlining the user experience and creating a much more solid and seamless experience. There is significant investment in making Design Space even better and that will continue for the rest of the year.
As we had communicated earlier, we have been working on the Design Space for iPAD. We have also been working very hard to ensure there is a seamless integrated experience of Design Space on the iPAD and the PC/Mac. Every Cricut Explore user will be able to design on the iPAD and those projects will show up in the Design Space on the PC/Mac. However if you have a Bluetooth adapter, you can also cut wirelessly from your iPAD. This app is compatible with iPAD2 and above. The iPAD2 was released several years ago. So even if a user does not have a Bluetooth adapter, they can still design projects on their iPAD and these projects will we synchronized to the Design Space on the PC/Mac. The user can then use their Design Space on the PC/Mac to cut the way you do currently via USB. So again, the iPAD app can be used to design by every single Explore owner without making any upgrades or buying the new Explore Air.
We are also reviewing our Android strategy. In a survey that we had conducted, the highest number of users requested a Design Space for iPAD significantly more than Android. As we are a small team, we can only focus on one thing at a time. We will be reviewing our plans for Android at a later date.
We had communicated that the Design Space app for iPAD will be ready by January. However, we also want to ensure that we provide a great experience. We are testing this app rigorously but it seems that this app will be further delayed by a few weeks and will probably be a late February release. We will announce a firm date at a later date. Our deep apologies for this delay, but we want to ensure that our products reflect the highest level of quality and experience. So we appreciate your patience as we try and eliminate all major bugs and create a seamless experience.
The Cricut Explore was designed very thoughtfully. It was designed to be upgradable. We will have continued focus in 2015, 2016 and beyond to keep improving the experience. We realize that you have made a solid investment and our goal is to keep improving and supporting the experience. The Explore can be already upgraded by adding Bluetooth to create a wireless experience.
You have also seen the announcement of Explore Air (HSN launch in mid February). The Explore Air is an integrated (Cricut Explore + Bluetooth) experience. The Explore Air will have exactly the same features as a Cricut Explore combined with a Bluetooth Adapter. So all software enhancements and new apps will be exactly the same for both Cricut Explore (add bluetooth for wireless capability) and Cricut Explore Air. The Cricut Explore and Cricut Explore Air is built off the exact same platform with the exception of the standalone bluetooth adapter.
We are an innovation company so we have to keep innovating with new products and services. Like every appliance in your life from phones to camera to microwaves to laundry machines, our goal is to continue to innovate and leverage the latest technologies to create a better easier experience. In doing so, we also want to make sure that unless we are limited by hardware capabilities of our current machines, all software enhancements and Apps also benefit our current Explore owners.
We are very excited about the new Design Space for PC/MAC and the iPad for all our users and the seamless integration between the two. We are also excited about the Bluetooth capability (thru the additional adapter) or the launch of Explore Air.
We value you as consumers and appreciate that you trust us to bring the best possible experiences I 2015, 2016 and beyond along with the continued innovation.
Best
