I think I've done too much "technical" research this weekend. LOL I'm in the market for a new laptop and I want to be able to scrap on it, but I'm seeing a lot of comments that discourage PSE on laptops. I know it would be better on a desktop, but I really want the portability of a laptop. I'm not looking for a $1000 laptop, but I found one within my budget that well exceeds the requirements for running PSE. What is your experience and what are the specs on your laptop?

I've used in on a MacBook Pro. It's fine. It may be a little tricky to do what you want with a trackpad instead of with a mouse. I guess if you have problems then get a mouse and sit at a desk/table.

I've been using PSE for years, and I've only ever run it on laptops. I've had three laptops, and PSE has worked on all of them. I don't experience any slowness or crashes. Until I switched to Lightroom a couple of months ago and moved my catalog from PSE10 to LR5, PSE managed my 25,000+ photos just fine. I have not had any problems running LR on my laptop either. My laptops were in the $500-$750 range. I run Windows 7.

I use pse10 on a laptop and have no issues with it. I'm on a dell Inspiron that is a couple of years old now. I have mine set up at my desk normally with a keyboard and mouse and a bigger monitor but I have also used it as a true laptop. I have a wireless mouse that I use.

I'm running PSE9 on an HP 17" laptop. Before I ran it on a Dell 15" laptop. I always have Picasa and PSE open at the same time since my photos and supplies are in Picasa. I use a Logitech wireless mouse. No issues.
ETA: For specs - My HP Pavilion g7 is 64-bit, has a 500GB hard drive, and it has 6GB RAM. I'm running windows 7.

You just need to purchase something that has some decent components. That means a little more money. A good quality processor - Intel Pentium Core i5 processor and 6 - 8 GB of RAM. You really don't need a tremendously huge hard drive. 500 GB would be plenty.
Less on the specs and it will run slow and run hot. Running hot is the death knell for a laptop. Always keep the fan area unobstructed also.

I run my full designing programs (PS and AI) on my laptop, but it's a pretty beefed up one. I wouldn't think twice about putting PSE on a laptop in general, and have installed it on my daughter's cheap-o laptop. (It's slow, but it's sufficient for her.)

Thank y'all so much! I just ordered my laptop and PSE 12 and I'm so excited! I did end up with a higher end model than what I was originally looking at, but I used my Amex points so it was free!!!!! Yay!

I don't have trouble running the progrAms but I do have trouble with color since the color changes when the screen/monitor moves.

I've been using PSE on a MacBook Pro for about 4 years without any problem. I did, however, buy a large monitor about 7 months ago and I love it!

I run PSE on a Dell Vostro that is 3 1/2 yrs old. It's my work machine, which means there is a little more to it than a run of the mill laptop in turns of specs. I have had no problems with PSE on this machine.

Same as others - I've only run PSE on various laptops (currently on a macbook pro) and it works fine. Have fun with your new toys!

I got a Toshiba with an i7 processor and an NVIDIA graphics card - DH talked me into those. I hope they are as good for photo editing as they are for gaming! LOL. 8GB RAM and 750GB hard drive. It's only a 15 inch screen, but I have a 26 inch monitor that I use with my work laptop that I can also use. I also got the touchscreen since it will be running Windows 8. I'm also not planning to let anyone else near it! We have a desktop and my DH's laptop for everyone else to use! Thanks again everyone!

Lena Same here. I started using PSE 4.0 on a laptop, and now am up to the newest version on my 3rd laptop.

While I run PSE on my laptop just fine, I did find I needed to hook it up to a monitor. Since the angle of the screen varies easily on a laptop, I found the the color and brightness was never consistent. I getting much better results now.

I have used PSE for years on my iMac. Last year I added a Macbook Air, and I do digiscrap on PSE when my daughter is at various lessons/appointments. It does work, but certainly not as user-friendly in terms of screen space, as the larger screen.
