WOW! I got a reply email within 10 minutes and they are refunding the 27.00 difference. That's great customer service.

I am on the free trial now. Can I cancel and then purchase at the special rate? Has anyone tried this yet?

I am on the free trial now. Can I cancel and then purchase at the special rate? Has anyone tried this yet? I just did it this morning! My free trail was set to expire tomorrow (lucky coincidence). I canceled it this morning and immediately went back in and signed up. What I did, so that I didn't have to use a different email account, was give the gift of Prime to myself! Worked perfectly! $72 and I'm good until the end of January 2016!

Quick question about Prime and sharing ~ I know you can share with four members of your household. Is this just the shipping part of Prime? Meaning, if I share with someone else in my household, I have read that they can keep their personal Amazon account and still shop through their email address, not having to log in under mine. But, can they then sign in for Amazon Prime Instant Video through their personal address or will they have to do it through mine, mine being the primary email Prime is attached to? Also, is there a limit as to the number of devices with access to Prime? I know you can only stream to two devices at the same time, but can you access Prime to more than the two? We have two smartphones, an iPod Touch, Playstation 3, Roku, three computers, and three tablets that ideally would be used at some time for Prime. Thanks! Yes, just the shipping part of prime, but nothing else. Prime is under dh's email/Amazon acct. I get Amazon Prime shipping when logged in as me, but have to log in as him to get video and kindle prime benefits.

I emailed them and they said I am on a free trial, which I am not (been a member since 2011) and that I can just sign up for the $72/year. Which I can't. So yeah that didn't help at all.

I emailed about the price difference (mine just renewed on Tuesday) and they credited my credit card the difference.

I was told too bad so sad this time around. They can't honor the price for existing customers. I am going to cancel and have my dh sign up instead. I wish they didn't make it so difficult. I only have 2 weeks left in my membership, so meh.

How do you email amazon Prime? Does anyone have the address? I went through the Amazon site and the contact Amazon section. Then typed in my "question". I received my answer an hour or two later.

Thanks Peas! Mine just renewed at $99 last week so I sent an email and quickly received a response that I would see a $27 credit!

Fabulessly Frugal posted this morning that you can purchase Prime as a gift and gift it to yourself at the $72.00 rate. You can choose the delivery date and have it sent when your current membership expires. I have not personally tried this yet, but I thought I'd share. link
eta link I just did this. Thanks. I had the free trial and it wouldn't let me cancel that. So I purchased prime as a gift and used my own email address. The start date is the day my free trial ends.

I can't figure out how to contact them either. Everything I choose sends me to a faq page or there was an option to have them call me.
I mentioned this deal on my blog and a reader with an existing Prime membership was able to get the $27 credit.

Weird you just go to contact us, tell them what about and you have a choice to email, chat or call. But they didn't give me or any of my friends on facebook any credit or help at all so it seems random.

So I Googled "Contact Amazon" and got to them through this page: www.amazon.com/gp/help/contact-us/general-questions.html?skip=trueNot intuitive at all, LOL! I live on Amazon and have never seen a Contact Us button. I must be blind.

Just in case anyone is interested in my experience, My prime membership ended at the end of the month and I did not plan on renewing it for 99 dollars, I thought that was too high and I have been less happy with the service (more recently many things I've ordered have come in 4 days rather than 2, and amazon's argument is that they guarantee 2 days from their warehouse to the USPS. But we do use the streaming sometimes, and it is nice to be able to order one small thing when I think of it and get the shipping free. So anyway, I tried to see if I could add it to my account at the $72, and it did go through for the discounted rate. Just in case anyone has lapsed in their membership or cancelled, the link in the OP should work.

My Prime doesn't renew until April but I wrote and asked if I could have the special rate for renewal. Here was their response:
Thanks for contacting us about this offer.
I've checked your account and confirm that your account didn't meet all the qualifications for receiving this promotional offer. This offer is only for Prime members that will renew their subscription on 1/22, /23, 1/24 or 1/25.
However, to help you with this, I've issue a refund of $29.03 ( rebate of $27; tax $ $2.03) to your original payment method. You'll see the refund on your credit card statement in the next 2-3 business days.
I hope this helps. We look forward in seeing you again soon.
I love Amazon!

I'm in a chat right now and the guy claims that no one has a received a credit for $27. I was given the option of cancelling my prime and restarting it.

Rahul:Yes, if the prime membership is being renewed on January 24, 2015 then these customers will be receiving the renewal at $72.00. Me:No, I'm asking about existing customers (like myself) that currently pay $99 and when they asked about this offer (like I am) they were given a credit of $27 on their account Rahul:I'm sorry but we dint do any exception to the existing customers who have renewed the prime at $99.00.
Oh well, I'm just not a fan of rules changing depending on which person answers your email. He now says that those that renew between 1/22 - 1/25 get the $72 rate

sacteach can you ask if you cancel could you purchase a membership for $72 (and be reimbursed for the amount left)? I just sent an email to amazon - and it took me forever to find the stupid contact button too! This deal is great for new members, but I honestly feel like it's a slap in the face for us loyal members!

Yeah, I might just do that. It's annoying that it's extra steps, but it's worth $27 and it will change my membership renewal date to January which is actually easier for me.

Amazon has made a huge PR blunder with this by not allowing this to be applied to renewals. It has created chaos as so many of us get differing responses...no way to treat their most loyal customers. It was nice they gave me $10 credit but now it doesn't seem so nice since others are getting $27.

just curious, for those who emailed them, what exactly did you say? did you request the rate, or ask if there was an exception? thanks!

I called in as well. The gentleman I spoke to had no idea what I was talking about so he looked into it and all he said was "sorry but it is for new members only".
