Mine expires tomorrow. Seemed like a easy do. Cancel and resign up. Could not get it to cancel now. Would only cancel on 25th. (day after deal) Got on chat. Explained. They said only for new members. I said, so a family member or someone else could sign up and mine I could cancel in a day. He said yes, and then seeing I was "going to get my way one way or another" (that's what I think he thought) would I like him to cancel my current now? Yes. Then he provided me a link that he said I should be able to use (in my name) to get the $72 rate. He did, I did and it worked.
I think, sometimes half the battle is persistence and pointing out the is always a way around it, or a silly policy. At a certain point they have to admit it is.

Since the $72.oo special is for some movie win and only for this 1 day, it seems like they should give the benefit to everyone who who requests it. I do like the idea of giving it as a gift to yourself and having it start on the anniversary of your current Prime expiration. We were offered a further discount for signing up for a cc and having it put onto that. And even that offer varies. Originally it said a $50.00 discount, but it came was only $40.00 on the final transaction. So I paid $32.00 for a year of Prime.

Mine asked me for journeyfan's email address so that the agent could be reported to the manager for not following policy. I copy/pasted what she posted here (not her name of course)

If I am understanding this correctly. I can purchase a gift for myself to be delivered close to my expiration date and then cancel my membership then, instead of auto renewing. At this point I can use the $72 gift of prime?

At this point I can use the $72 gift of prime? Yes, or cancel now, get a credit for the remaining balance and start your "new" membership now. That's what I'm likely going to do. I canceled and sent myself a gift membership. I got back $80 and paid $78. I just won't start my new membership until I need it. No point in starting it today if I'm not going to buy anything for a week or two.

Mine asked me for journeyfan's email address so that the agent could be reported to the manager for not following policy. I copy/pasted what she posted here (not her name of course) Wow, just wow. Yep. Here is the transcript (with my name edited) 06:16 PM PST MC: A friend got an email stating: Thanks for contacting us about this offer. I've checked your account and confirm that your account didn't meet all the qualifications for receiving this promotional offer. This offer is only for Prime members that will renew their subscription on 1/22, /23, 1/24 or 1/25. However, to help you with this, I've issue a refund of $29.03 ( rebate of $27; tax $ $2.03) to your original payment method. You'll see the refund on your credit card statement in the next 2-3 business days. I hope this helps. We look forward in seeing you again soon. 06:17 PM PST MC: Her membership expires in April. There are plenty of posts on various social media platforms of people getting credits while others are not 06:18 PM PST MC: It's pissed off a lot of long time customers like myself that some are being offered credits of $27 while others are not. 06:20 PM PST Noel(Amazon): This is against Amazon's policy. Please provide me the email address of your friend. I'll ask my Manager to take appropriate action against that agent. 06:21 PM PST MC: I would need to get her permission as I don't really feel that it's appropriate for me to do that or for you to ask. At this point I will just cancel my prime membership 06:23 PM PST Noel(Amazon): Okay. I'll cancel your prime membership for a prorated refund. 06:25 PM PST MC: thank you 06:26 PM PST Noel(Amazon): You're welcome. I've canceled your Amazon Prime membership. You'll receive a refund of $80.57 for the Amazon Prime membership fee. Refunds typically process within 2-3 business days and appear as a credit on your statement.

This is what I sent:
I saw that Prime memberships will be discounted this weekend. I have been a loyal amazon and prime shopper for years and would like to take advantage of this special. I have just been charged the full price of $99 for the renewal of my Prime membership. How do I get the difference credited to my account? Thank you.

oh and also, there's no 'contact us' button for me either. I finally found it after about a dozen clicks but I couldn't tell you exactly how.

I just did live chat and was told that I could order a gift membership, have it delivered when my current membership expires and I would get the membership for the $72 rate. That's what I did and it better work seamlessly. Fortunately, I had the chat transcript emailed to me and will use it in case I have any problems. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/MNrJDkDuSwqIMVw33MdD.jpg)

I almost forgot about this!! (Grandkids are spending the weekend with us.) I just called Amazon and asked about the promotion. Told the rep about the promotion and that we had been Prime members for years. I told her I would like to cancel our membership, which expires Jan. 25th, if we could not get the promotion. She had me hold on and came back on the line and said they couldn't give us the promotion but would credit our debit card with $27.00!!! Thanks to Suzastampin for posting a link about it!!!
Added the email I just received:
A Message from Amazon Customer Service Shopping

Amazon Your Account Amazon.com Message From Customer Service Hello,
Thank you for being a Prime member. Since your renewal was near the promotion period, we will make an exception and refund you $27.
I've requested a refund of $27.00 to your Visa card.
You'll see the refund on your credit card statement in the next 2-3 business days.
Once processed, you'll also be able to see the refund request here:
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
We look forward to seeing you again soon.
Best regards, Macy D.

I emailed and the response I got was a little different but worked the same, I guess. The agent said they would refund the difference on a previous order. So I got several refunds of $6.75 on different orders.

Mine renewed 6 days ago. I just emailed them. We'll see if I have any luck. As an update I received an email from Amazon which offered me.....nothing at all. Here's the email I got. FYI, I referenced the fact that I understood that I wasn't eligible but hoped as a long time subscriber who just renewed last week that they would give me a courtesy refund. I'm sorry for any misunderstanding about the prime promotion on our website. Currently, we're offering the prime membership in the amount of $72.00 to the customers who are subscribing or renewing their prime membership between January 22, 2015 to January 25, 2015. I'm sorry if this information was not clear on our website. I've checked our records and see that your prime membership was renewed on January 18, 2015. Hence you're not eligible for this prime promotion. I apologize for the inconvenience this may cause to you.

I emailed them. Mine renewed a few weeks ago. They said so sorry it was only for new customers. Kind of upsetting since I spend a lot at amazon and have been on prime for a few years.

I have never signed up for Amazon Prime. Amazon Canada isn't great (it's not bad but nothing like the US). So I don't have Amazon Prime.
I have Amazon Prime. I am not making this up. I did not sign up for it. I did not sign up for a trial. I bought a rice cooker and a hot water pot for DS using my "Prime" membership to get free shipping. Huh? How do I have Amazon Prime if I didn't sign up or pay for it or anything?
Yeah, weird.

Did it have the blue "prime" logo on the product page? You can get free shipping without prime if the item is sold by amazon and over a certain price (used to be $25, I think now it's $35). the logo looks like this: ![](http://g-ecx.images-amazon.com/images/G/01/marketing/prime/pdp/checkPrime._CB336387061_.png)

I emailed on Saturday and got the response that the deal was only for new members. I emailed back on Sunday saying how disappointed I was that some current Prime members were getting a credit for the difference. This time they did agree to credit me the difference as well. Persistence pays off.
