Haven't thought of this movie in years but OMG did my 13 year old self (and basically every other 13 year old girl that I knew at the time) love it! It was absolutely the height of everything romantic. I would have bet my last dollar it was Kristy McNichol, that's how I remember it. But when I googled the clip attached, I'm surprised to find out it was Denise Miller. She pretends to be 17 so she can take guitar lessons from Rex Smith (swoon). I'd love to see this again. Off to see if Amazon can provide me with this blast from my past! For your nostalgic pleasure - enjoy!!
Sooner or Later - Rex Smith
PS - I'm sensing I may have to invoke the "No Thread Left Behind Policy" for this - and I already have my second video picked out!

I *DO* remember that movie, and I believe I had a Rex Smith album? Is that possible?

Remember where she cries and eats a chocolate cake by herself? I always wanted to suffer and do that. I never did.
I didn't have the album, but I still have the 45 of Rex Smith and Rachel Sweet covering "Everlasting Love".

Remember where she cries and eats a chocolate cake by herself? I don't remember much detail about the movie, just the big picture and that I wanted to die from love for Rex Smith. I put this on my Netflix queue, and it says "Very Long Wait." Sigh.

Totally my generation, but I don't remember it.
Now "Little Darlings" - that was Kristy McNichol and I totally remember that.

Rex Smith's hair was so beautiful! I'm pretty sure I wore the album out.
I loved Little Darlings as well.
Anyone remember a made-for-tv movie with Kristy and Jimmy McNichol - Blinded by the Light? He was a in a cult and she tried to get him out.

Oh, yes. It was a made for TV Movie and my mom had gone out to my grandmother's who wasn't feeling well, and I was supposed to be in bed, but I shut out all of the lights and was watching it on the sly. Love, loved it! And "You Take My Breath Away" was a huge Rex hit.

Speaking of the McNicols, remember the t.v. movie called "Champions, a Love Story" where Jimmy was an ex- hockey player paired with a figure skater? He was a totally encouraging optimist who inspired them both to achieve and then he died tragically in a plane crash. She had to skate alone. . .for Peter. "It was always for Peter." I shed many tears over this one.

I don't know how I missed this one. My era too. I remember Little Darlings, Foxes, etc. Wasn't there always some underage girl losing her virginity to some older dude? Will have to watch this one because I was a 15-yr-old lovelorn girl in 1979. Do you remember being lovelorn but also afraid of boys? I do!

Yes, I remember that movie as well.
I was at a play in Toronto about 20 years ago, Sunset Boulevard, and the male lead looked familiar to me. I hadn't even checked the programme for names, but it didn't take long to come to me. It was Rex Smith. The hair was shorter, lol, but he still looked the same. He did a very good job in the production.

That was one of the few TV movies of that time that I saw. It came on just before we sold our house I the "city" where we could get cable and moved to the country. Dad got religious about then and left our TV at the city house. I missed all the TV shows and movies that came out from the time I was 13 until I was 16 and dating. Dad decided he'd rather we sin and go to the show than find a dark parking spot and make our own sin. Lol

I've never heard of that movie - I would have been 12 in 1979. Also never heard of Rex Smith. Kristy McNicol though....... she was probably my first girl crush.

The movie with Rex Smith and Kristy McNichol was The Pirate Movie. It was kind of a teen version of The Pirates of Penzance. I had the soundtrack album. LOVED IT. I'll have to look to see if it's available on DVD, I'd love to see it again. I could drive the kids crazy with my singing.

I absolutely remember it! I was 21 years old when that came out and though it was hilarious that they were trying to pass Rex Smith off as a 17 year old, he was two years older than me at the time....23. Didn't stop me from watching it though....he was dreamy! I also had a crush on Armand Assante when "Little Darlings" came out.
