Oh, yeah, I remember that movie. It was around the same time period as Ice Castles. So much fromage from my childhood but I loved every minute of it!

I remember watching every single one of the movies mentioned here. I even bought "Champions: A Love Story" on DVD. I was totally shocked when I found it. The sequel to Sooner or Later, wasn't quite as good as the first one, but it was an easy read. I kept hoping for the movie version to come out.

I've never heard of that movie - I would have been 12 in 1979. Also never heard of Rex Smith. Kristy McNicol though....... she was probably my first girl crush. Kristy officially came out in 2012 - so you're in with a chance now!
Another Aussie of that era here, also never heard of the movie or this Rex guy. But I *loved* The TV show Family with Kristy in it. I had the biggest crush on her TV brother Willie and cried and cried when his on screen wife died! I still let out a little yelp of excitement when I see him on a TV show every now and then.

I don't know what I was doing in 1979, cos I haven't heard of Rex Smith, Denise Miller or the film. Off to Google Rex Smith. (Actually, I do remember what I was doing in 1979. I was nearly 16 and was madly in love with the cute Spanish waiter who drove me around Cala Millor in Mallorca on his motorbike. Dancing under the stars at night to Abba's 'Chiquitita' - in Spanish! - and eating ice cream on the beach. We were just like Danny and Sandy - but in Spanish! )

I was so daring and carefree, no thought of what might have happened to me. My mum and dad just let me go too. It was so so long ago, it feels like a different world. Manuel (naturally that was his name ) and I wrote deep soulful letters to each other - in Spanish, of course, the only English he knew was "How many beers tonight?" - for at least 9 months after I came home. I can still remember his address, which is funny, as I can barely remember my own some days! Sigh, is there anything as wonderful as innocent-ish teenage holiday romances?

Remember it, it, own the DVD and a copy of the CD!!!'' Even put You Take My Breath Away & Simply Jessie on my iPod! My sisters & I pull it out for our Chick Flick Nite every so often. YES, chendra!! That's one of my favorite scenes as well, lol. She ate an entire Sara Lee chocolate cake, crying the entire time. I always wanted to do that too, lol. Sadly, they don't even make them anymore.

This thread has taught me that apparently I picture the wrong person when I hear the name Rex Smith. Having said that, I LOVED Ice Castles

So funny that this came up here! About a year ago, I went on a search for this book from my past. I couldn't remember the title, but I had a hazy picture in my mind of the cover. I ended up on this website dedicated to cheesy books from the 70s and I finally found it. Also got the sequel "Waiting Games." Apparently there was a 3rd book as well, but I never read it. Thanks to Amazon I got both books and was able to relive my past Feature on Jezebel about old YA books, Fine Lines: jezebel.com/tag/fine-lines

I watched "Sooner Or Later" on Youtube, within the last year. I was traveling for work and bored and ended up watching it. I had no memory of the adults in the movie at all- Morey Amsterdam was the guitar studio owner.
