Going at the end of February and wondered if it was worth the 1.5 hour drive from the airport to stay in Negril. Any experience with resorts at either location? All inclusive and adults only preferred. I'd only be considering Negril because Trip Advisor says the beaches are much better in Negril.
I wanted to go back to the D.R. but since the trip is so short (only 4 days) I wanted a non-stop short flight but now I'm second guessing myself.

I've stayed in both places and agree that the beaches are better in Negril. No advice on places to stay since it's been a few years.

We were in Negril last year. Amazing beaches. If you've been to the D.R. you've been on amazing beaches! This year we are heading the other way and going to Ocho Rios in Jamaica. We are staying at a Beaches. I can't remember the name of the hotel in Negril. I want to say it was a six star. I think it had palace in the name and was a chain hotel that they have in Mexico and DR. It wasn't only adults, but there was a hedonism type hotel just down the beach and you could get an eyeful looking at men's 78 year old balls.  The bus ride is a little crazy through parts of trip, but that is half the fun. Very nice staff who made sure you were well taken care of. |

We took a short cruise down the coast and saw places where they filmed parts of Pirates of the Caribbean.

I haven't stayed in Negril, but I've stayed in Mo Bay. I didn't like it. Now when we go, we stay at the Beaches Runaway Bay. It's next to the newer Hedonism III. The 2 resorts share the same entertainment - the entertainers call that place Hedo Freako  |

Negril's beaches are way better than MB. Also in MB, you will constantly hear planes flying overhead as they are taking off or landing. The airport is right there.
Don't go to Hedonism. Just don't. Yea, people are naked, but the average age is like 60. There is not enough eye bleach in the world........

Gah I hate to hear that Montego Bay is such a undesirable location! Negril resorts are easily twice as much and geared toward couples! O and I am going to Hedo!!! What better place to swim nude than where everyone is older and saggier! I will feel like the belle of the ball for once. I only want to say I've swam naked at Hedo

My kiddo was 17 at the time when we walked on the nakkie beach. He said he saw things that cannot be unseen. He also learned about gravity and balls… and what he has to look forward to in 40-50 years. A-ha! That was worth the price of the trip. Montego Bay is crazy busy. The planes were also loud. I think we're a good ninety minutes to two hours away from there. My sister is a travel agent and sent us to Negril last year because of the beaches. I have had friends of to Ocho Rios and they loved it. |

I ended up booking at Secrets Wild Orchid. I just couldnt see paying 1k a night at the resorts in Negril. There were cheaper options for more boutique type hotels but they have poor reviews and were not all inclusive. Also researched more about Hedonism...seems there has been a crack down and I don't want to be on Arrested while Abroad. I've swam naked in a couple Hawaiian islands and will call it good.

No one recommended a hotel and with only 20 some odd days out the only rooms left were Honeymoon Suites with butler service. I will stay at Wild Orchid and spend a day in Negril. |

My DH and I stayed at Secrets in Montego Bay two years ago. The planes are really not a huge distraction. The beach is man made and small but it's simply gorgeous. The property is very well kept and the rooms are very modern. One thing I found interesting was the frosted glass door to the toilet.
Lol. Food was okay. Not terrible and not awesome. Our favorite restaurant was the Italian. Do not miss the jerk chicken man who comes around at lunch time. Yummy.

To add. Last year my DH and I stayed in Negril. The beaches are better but they are not private like Secrets. There are vendors walking up and down the beaches selling everything from tie dye dresses to pot. Lol. They are only allowed to walk along the water line so they cannot harass you on your lounger etc. We stayed at Couples Negril and while the property is older than Secrets, we would rather go back to Negril. You'll have a good time either way.

Olan, my family is dying to try the bobsled course in the rain forest (I think it is a rain forest). It cracks me up we have decided our entire vacation around a 90 second bobsled ride. That is males for you!
