How much more of a learning curve is it from Sil. Studio? Anyone use the iPad app. Thinking of getting the app and possibly the desktop version also.

I use SCAL but it's an old-ish version (pre-Provocraft lawsuit) that I use with my Cricut. I haven't found it to have much of a learning curve - it's pretty straight-forward but it's the only cutting software I've used (I haven't even used the Cricut cartridges yet) so no point of comparison.

I also use a pre-PC lawsuit version (2.044) with my Cricut. I think the software is really easy to use. Way easier than the original Cricut Design Studio. I haven't played with my Silhouette or their software yet.

Me three! Still using the 2.0 version with my Expression. Still going strong!
I find SCAL very easy to use. I never had a problem with Design Studio, in fact, I still use DS once in a while.

Yep, another one with an old version of SCAL I use with my cricut. Very easy to use. I have done some basic things with the Silhouette software - just got it so I can use studio files and then save them as SVG (don't actually have a Silhouette machine) and they seem pretty similar. Maybe slightly different ways of going about things but I don't think you'd notice any steep learning curve.

thank you. Going to go ahead with the iPad app, then possibly get the full version if I like it.

I use an old version of SCAL, I think it is 2.0. I use it with my old Cricut. I find it to be a lot easier to use than the Silhouette Studio software. I wish I could use it with my Silhouette!

tinaev - you can use it with the Silhouette. They would upgrade you for free from 2 to 3 (as long as you have your proof of purchase/unlock code that came with it when you bought it),. You can run both versions on your computer. SCAL3 doesn't overwrite SCAL2. I think Silhouette Studio is easier than SCAL - LOL

I use an old version, can you buy a new version?
I think I have 2., it's what's prevented me from buying a Silhoutette. I'm not sure what it would offer that I can't get out of my Cricuts, with my limited use.
Can't wait to learn more, I know the Cricuts going to explode some day....

I bought a Silver Bullet cutter a couple months ago and it came bundled with SCAL4. It's installed and I've played around with it a little bit but that's it. I'm so used to using various versions of Funtime that I hope it won't be too painful of a transition. I really need to force myself to take the time and dive in, but life has been way too chaotic lately!

I posted above - but you can upgrade your SCAL2 to SCAL3 for free. You just need to have your download code as proof of purchase. You can use both SCAL2 and SCAL3 on the same computer, since SCAL3 does not overwrite SCAL2. So you can use both your old Cricut and a new Silhouette with it.
There is SCAL4 out now and you have to pay for that, but I think it is not as much if you already own an older version.

I think SCAL is more user friendly than Sil. Studio. MTC is even better, but I can't use it on my MAC. I mostly do use Sil. Studio, just because it's convenient when using silhouette files, but I open SCAL for all the other files, and it's easier when designing my own files. I think it's the newest version, I bought it way after the cricut/mtc/scal fiasco.

SCAL 4 is the latest version. I haven't bought my upgrade yet, but I am thinking about it. I has some better text shaping tools. Studio really needs to get something like that going.
