I am wanting to use watercolor in my journal book, do I prep the page and if so how?
Also if I use watercolor on a small canvas board do I prep and with what?
I know about Gesso but was wondering if there is another product to use ?
Thank you...gail

I don't prep the pages with anything when I'm using watercolors. Sometimes I apply clear gesso on the other side, to prevent the color seeping thru, tho.

I don't use anything either, I just leave pages out to dry thoroughly before closing the book. And I kinda like the warped look that the pages take on after they've been water colored. (I had no idea there was clear gesso!)

My clear gesso is really gritty- not sure I like it- going to give it another go- and see if I just applied it wrong.
Good luck!

If your gesso has a lot of tooth (gritty), take a piece of brown paper bag and lightly rub it all over in a light circular motion. It will take some of the tooth off and leave it smooth.
