I have recently changed my kitchen to open shelving on all the upper cabinets. So now I am going with all new dishes. Still in that process. (I love the look so far)
My old dishes are a popular vintage pattern and I am so confused as to where would be the best way of selling them. I am thinking between Etsy and EBay, but have never sold anything online before. There may be another place that I am not aware of.
I don't have a complete set, just a lot of pieces that I have purchased over the years. Thanks.

What pattern is it? Maybe we can give suggestions if we know what it is, how popular it is now, what the stock is like, demand, etc.

There is also Replacements.com. They won't offer high price, because they intend to resell it. That site might also give you an idea of the value of your items.

We have a few high end consignment shops in town. I have an older dish set that DH had before we met. It's been boxed up in the garage. I'm going to take it over there.

I've sold items to Replacements and got a great deal. I have some china that I need to sell, and I'm going to take it to Replacements because it's the easiest way to sell the items and get a decent price. I'm also replacing my dinnerware and have been looking at Replacements to get ideas. They have everything there.

Thank you so much. I knew the Peas would have a solution or two. Replacements is a great idea. Do I need to take pictures of each piece ? My main concern about this whole thing is dealing with the shipping. Both the cost and the actual wrapping and boxing.
I really thought that I would have more replies to my open shelving decision. When my guy took off the doors to the cabinets to paint them, I realized that I loved the look. After many hours of staring at my kitchen and Pinterst - I went for it. Love Love Love it. I have a very small kitchen and it is the perfect solution to make it look bigger.
Thanks so much Peas.

I called Replacements and they are sending me a list of what pieces they are buying. I'm concerned that it is so popular that they probably already have tons on hand. It is Franciscan Apple - USA but all different back stamps. I do have some pieces that are not that common.
I have a cookie jar with lid but there is a fixed crack in the back. Darn.

Why do I *not* think of coming here and asking the RefuPeas when I have questions like this ? Thank you, quinlove, for asking about selling dishes. And thanks to the RefuPeas that mentioned Replacements.com! My DH and I were just having a conversation yesterday about how to best sell one of the 3 partial sets of dinnerware we inherited from his late parents. None of the sets is a full set partly due to major dissent on who-gets-what after their deaths (the sets were divided up among the heirs) and there are also some missing and damaged pieces. We really want to start downsizing and need to get rid of these sets. (And no, offering the dishes to the other relatives is NOT an option! Long story - but hell will freeze over before my DH will do that.) QUESTIONI'm pretty confident I know what 2 of the patterns are because they are well marked. The 3rd set, I'm not so sure. It has no markings and no "pattern". It is very deep colored red glass. It is similar to Anchor Hocking's Ruby Red depression glass, but I'm just not sure if it's authentic or a replica. Would Replacements.com be able to identify these dishes/glasses from a picture if there are no markings? I'm fairly certain they are from that era, but I have nothing definitive on when or where they were purchased. TIA

I look LOCALLY before doing anything like eBay; consignment stores (if I want any money), or local charity stores, (if i just want them out of the house).
I have done Replacements before, it actually is along the way down to DH's brother's house. If you coordinate ahead of time and bring them it, you do get a little more for the items, and without the hassle of shipping them

Here is the current list of completed eBay auctions for Franciscan - Apple. Prices in black were not sold, while prices in green show the selling price. Many of the higher prices (most unsold) are Replacements, Ltd. If you do choose to sell on eBay, keep in mind the fees and shipping costs. Be sure you are charging enough to cover all your shipping/packing costs. By the time you pack dishes well enough to ship unbroken, you can sometimes add quite a bit to the shipping weight. Thank you so much for taking the time to look that up. eBay is not my first choice. That's why I was hoping for other places.

Sandy, I would be on my way now if it was any where close to me. I live in Texas. Any traveling now is by plane, as I am usually going by myself. Thank you Peas for all the suggestions.

Before selling the lot to Replacements, please check your pattern on eBay. I buy my Franciscan pattern on eBay and there are many sellers. Prices are all over the place but generally better than on Replacements and the selection is much greater.

quinlove I sold some of my Mum's china on TradeMe in New Zealand (which is our version of ebay). It was a popular china that was no longer available. I was offered a paltry sum for a 'job lot' by a dealer in Auckland and made 4 times the amount selling it myself online in small lots. It is a bit of work, but it was worth it to me as I was only working part time at the time. The main thing is to ensure that you pack well so nothing breaks!

Not exactly sure how to post pictures yet. It took me forever to switch from the kiwi ! As I do all of this on my iPad.
It is all the cabinets on the sink wall. (4, small kitchen). After he had taken off the doors, I loved the open look. I spent hours looking at them like that before I got up my nerve. He took out the middle vertical piece where the doors shut. Much sanding and filling in where the hindges were. Many coats of white paint later (they were white before but needed painting) and I am so proud of myself for taking the risk. I'd like most of my everyday dishes white. Going to add some baskets the color of my countertops which are tan right now.

quinlove I'm not much help with posting photos, sorry! So you left the "box" of the cabinets and just removed the doors and the front center piece that was between the doors? That's what I've been considering but my husband says it won't look right. I'd like to prove him wrong!

Katlady - yes, that's what we did. It took a little bit of vision to see (hope) what they would look like when complete. Once the center piece is gone and all hinge holes are filled, they look like they were made that way. I spent hours looking at kitchen open shelving at Pinterest. You can also Google it too. Maybe you could just do one cabinet if it is by itself or on an end.
I went to the galley to try and post a picture of it but no luck. Pinterest has whole boards devoted to these.

I would try to sell locally. I got an offer sheet from Replacements for my china and was offered .$50 per coffee cup. They sell cups and saucers for $18 today. It would have cost me way too much to pack and ship the china.
