I'm in the market for a new vacuum cleaner. We have carpeting through 85% of our house. What brand and features would you suggest?

We have a Dyson canister animal. It is awesome. The only thing I don't like about it is we bought the small one because we were in the trailer and now that we are in the house we have to empty it 3 or 4 times while vacuuming the whole house. My daughter bought us a IROBOT for Christmas. It is awesome. we turn it on and it vacuums the hardwood floor and the carpet. I hardly ever use the Dyson any more. We have learned that if we turn on the robot every other day it can vacuum the kitchen, living room, dining room, and hall without needing to be emptied. It takes it about 1 1/2 hours to do the job. We do our bedroom by its self because we found trying to do the bedroom and the rest of the house together is too much and the battery dies half way through.
My daughter does her room when needed. we add the craft room once a week when vacuuming the main rooms of the house. It is small nad doesn't need vacuuming that often. Haven't been crafting lately.

I hate my Dyson and would never recommend one. Hated mine. Got rid of it and got a Shark, which I love.

I bought a Shark Lift Away a couple months ago. At first I was suspicious because it feels so light. But now I love it. The head rotates so it's easy to maneuver, it picks up a ton of stuff, it has handy ass attachments, and the canister lifts off, so you can vacuum stairs, upholstery, etc.

Love my Hoover Windtunnel bagged vacuum. I tried 3 different bagless and hated them due to the bagless feature. I had to order a vacuum cleaner to get a bagged one.

Absolutely love my shark navigator lift away pro! Although it's under construction right now.. Between the dogs shedding, me shedding, and not cleaning it out enough, I think we have some major clogs going on.

I have a Miele and I love, love , love it. Very quiet and easily manouverable (probably spelled that wrong... sorry). Highly rated by Consumer Reports. I think they sell them at Bed, Bath and Beyond now, but I bought mine at a small local shop.

I hate my Dyson. I got a Shark Navigator Lift-Away last year and I love it. I keep the Dyson upstairs so I don't have to lug a vacuum up and down the stairs, but I may just retire it altogether.

Maybe it's me, but I don't like my Dyson Animal (mom bought it for me). I have 3 cats and a dog and the thing constantly clogged. In its defense though, I went and got a Shark and it's now having problems too. Ugh.
Someone recommended just going and getting a Shop Vac. Sure, it's not pretty, but it does the job (or so she claims) and you can use it indoors or out.

I have the Shark Lift Away and love it. I have 2 carpeted stairways and this works great. It has a nice handle and light weight, easy to carry. I have a dog that sheds a lot. This vacuum picks up all the dog hair.

I've had the Dyson Animal, not the ball or the canister, the other one for over 3-1/2 years. Best vacuum I've ever had. Plus, it doesn't exhaust light dust like all the others I've ever used does. Until I got the Dyson, I thought it was normal to be a little dusty or cough while vacuuming. I just go outside and dump into a bag and through into the trash. Plus, I used it to vacuum up a garter snake that had gotten into the house! I was seriously freaking out, grabbed the vacuum and it sucked up the snake. I threw both in the yard until DH came home and emptied it of snake! That alone made it worth buying!

Oh my! Who knew that we could be so passionate about our vacuum cleaners? I remember a few years ago, on the old board, when Dyson was so highly recommended. I was looking at this shark vacuum cleaner earlier today. Frankly I haven't shopped for a vacuum in several years and I had sticker shock. Those who've recommended the Shark, is this the model that you suggest?

I hate my Dyson and would never recommend one. Hated mine. Got rid of it and got a Shark, which I love. We haven't gotten rid of our Dyson yet only because it cost about the same as a carpayment and still "works" although we swore it was the worst purchase ever. I got a shark last summer and have been THRILLED - should have done it sooner! THe dyson "vaccuums" the basement bc there's not as much wear down there, but results are still unimpresssive~!

If you are looking for something inexpensive, the Bissell that Walmart carries can't be beaten. I have the bagged one and they are less than $50. It has a ton of power and really holds up well.

Paid less than what they are selling them for at Costco.

I have an Oreck. All I can say is, there is a reason that pretty much every hotel in the U.S. uses Orecks. They are awesome machines, and extremely lightweight. For me personally, one of the best things about the Oreck is the grip. Orecks are endorsed by the American Arthritis Association (or whatever the right name is).

I prefer canister vacs. My Kenmore died recently so I replaced it with a similar style Panisonic..boy does it out perform the kemore, great suction. Only con is it doesn't have the gripper that prevents it from sliding off the step when doing the stairs..other than that I love this machine.

I just got a Shark Pro system at Sams for under $200. It converts into a canister and is an upright. It also came with a free Shark Steam Mop. Check it out if you have a Sam's Club membership.

I have the shark 3 in 1. I like it a lot because you can use it as an upright on carpet and a canister on hard floors, and on stairs you can just carry the tank which isn't heavy at all. That also works great for getting the hose high up for corners/ceiling lights/etc. I used a 20% off coupon from BBB to buy it.
