Hi,
This is the first time I've ever posted on GS board, so thank you in advance for any answers! I got a Cricut Explore for Christmas. I've done all the set up, linking, etc. I've only played with it once, I hope it gets easier to use as I use it more. Anyway, my question is, can I give my Gypsy to a friend to use? I don't want to mail it to her if she can't use it. I've googled it, but have't seen a clear yes or no answer.
Thanks!
Melanie

It's been quite a few years ago since I had my Gypsy and Cricut so I'm not sure if this is correct information. She should be able to use it. Only the carts are what's linked to your Gypsy not the actual Cricut machine. Does that make sense?

Probably no clear answer because a gypsy is,supposed to have only cartridges you own... therefore, giving a gypsy already loaded is likely a violation. However, to answer your question, I have taken my gypsy to my niece`s house and used it on her machine. I have needed the cords and info to update her cricut when'I used it, but I was able to use my gypsy on her machine

Yeah, I know Provo Craft would consider it sketchy. It looks like people sell used Gypsy's, so that makes me think that it would work. I'm not selling it, or the cartridges. I was going to just send her a bunch of cartridges to use, and then realized that my gypsy is sitting here unused and it a much easier to mail!

She can't link it to her own account. It would have to be used as it is and can be used with any Cricut machine but the Explore. I had my Gypsy wiped clean and was told that it can not be linked to a new account. So I'm trying to sell it. The screen is too small for my eyes and I had been using the Craft Room. Now I have an Explore and am using Design Space. The Gypsy is an awesome little gadget.

My friend has the original Cricut, so she would be using it with that. I get that she wouldn't be able to link it to her account, but could she sign into mine to use craft room with it? The screen on the Gypsy is really bad! ! I really need to get on YouTube and watch some Explorer videos. I got it for Christmas, and have only used it once. I haven't scrapbooked in over a year, hoping this will give me that push back to it.

I don't know though if you could both be in the account at the same time. I would guess not. I think with Cricut Craft Room you can have two computers authorized to use your account at one time.

Do you mean that if she's using the Gypsy, on design studio (or whatever they call it), on my account so that she'd be able to use all my loaded cartridges, probably at least 100 of them, then you don't think I'll be able to log in to craft room also, and use the explore? I'm in Colorado and she's in Utah, so not close enough to just share like normal friends!

I'm in Colorado and she's in Utah, so not close enough to just share like normal friends! If she is using the Gypsy, it would just be on it's own and isn't hooked up to a computer. Doesn't conflict with anything since it is a handheld device and is not connected to the internet. The Gypsy works with all machines but the Explore. Cricut Craft Room is the online program on your computer that you can design with and hook up to all machines BUT the Explore. Design Space is the online program on your computer or iPad that you only hook up to the Explore. If she's in the Craft Room and you are in Design Space at the same time, I don't think you would be able to use the same account at the same time since both design programs are online based. Though I haven't read anyone trying to log into Craft Room and Design Space with the same account at the same time. Sorry it took a while for me to respond. My notifications are wacky. I should've be informed earlier.

I own a gypsy and my understanding is this: once a cart is downloaded onto the gypsy you cannot download it again. But i can use my gypsy on any machine. I do not use the craft room though. But all my carts are on my gypsy and useable. I do get error message sometimes on updating my gypsy and that is a pain! But overall I like my gypsy. I have used it on another cricut (at my mom's house) and it worked fine there also.

I hate that cricut has abandoned the gypsy. Some of us don't have internet access that is practical for their on line programs... I will cry when my gypsy dies!!

I sent my Gypsy back to Provo Craft last week.
The gypsy died and I want to be able to link all my cartridges that are linked.
I will update you all on the outcome.

There was an update for the Gypsy recently. Also they have a fix it program which I think costs you $50. So they are still adding carts to the library. Just slowly.

I use someone else's cricut without a gypsy and I actually forgot how to do it!
