Bees are so important and can use all the help they can get right now. I know it might be a pain for you, but I would keep trying to find a beekeeper than can help you out. I have friends that keep bees, I can ask them for suggested resources. . Also, Bees were my high school mascot. True story! cadoodlebug. Joy! You should have these bees. For nostalgia sake ...

Trust me, my high school class is so crazy over everything BEES that if this was in Louisiana I'm sure someone would take them! Our yearbook was the Bee Hive, our competitive gym night teams were the Wings and Stingers and our Sweetheart Pageant winner was crowned Queen Bee.

There is a Honey Lane in the New Forest that I have my eye on...if only, though. I'd have to sell a lot of honey to get in that price range!

Always get comments on it whenever we have to give our address (it sounds like a chocolate box cottage but is quite different to that!)

Our beehives are polystyrene and quite modern looking, so I have a different mental picture I think. I am currently putting honey in jars as I write...(well, waiting for it to drain in). Love my bees!

No, all houses on our road have names not numbers so the house is actually called "Three Bees", there's a Beehive Cottage too (massive house, not a cottage by any stretch!) but no other bee themed names (Silver Birches one side & St. something the other!)

Uh...that's debatable. It's like one of those "would you rather" questions and neither answer is good, lol.

Bee Bold Apiaries might be another option. They install and service bee hives. Maybe they can secure and re-home it for you and bottle some honey for you.

I haven't thought about the honey, or looked in the bee box. I cleared the ivy from it and thats it, not going to mess with it much. I have two phone call out to bee keepers.

I can remember when we were transferred there (NOLA), my former school's mascot was a Ram. Very cool for football cheers, etc. When they told me my new high school mascot was a Bee I laughed because I thought they were joking. The bee on my high school ring looks like a mosquito which we always thought was appropriate for New Orleans.

I'd do all I could to avoid an exterminator. Bees are struggling now and need us to help. I didn't think exterminators would kill honey bees anymore. I know mine won't.

I know this has been resolved, but a pest control company CANNOT kill honey bees. It is illegal because of their decline. So, if you were to find a pest guy willing to do it, you can bet he has no license.

I know this has been resolved, but a pest control company CANNOT kill honey bees. It is illegal because of their decline. So, if you were to find a pest guy willing to do it, you can bet he has no license. I have had two issues with bees in my home in the past few years. The first time, I came home to a neighbor telling me a huge swarm was in my driveway area and then suddenly disappeared up into the top beam area of my roof. Sure enough, I saw dozens coming and going from the roof area. I started calling around to see if I could find someone to come lure the bees out. No one would do it. I knew that bees were in decline, but I also read about the damage they do to your home so I needed them out. After exhausting all the ideas I had to get someone to come get them, I ended up calling a bee removal service. My first question to him was do you remove them or kill them. I explained where they were located and how long they had been there. It had been three days from the day my neighbor saw them enter because I was trying all I could to get them captured and saved. The bee guy said there was no way that hive was moving unless I could access the queen and get her out. To do that would require them removing huge sections of my roof and thousands of dollars. I didn't have that so I was forced to have them exterminated. This was in Orange County California about 7 or 8 years ago. I ended up with another batch of bees entering the roof through a crack by my fireplace. I saw a few coming and going from up near the fireplace and thought, oh no, not again! I again tried to find someone to save them. No luck again so I called the same bee guy. He came out and did a heat signature thing on the wall above my fireplace. I could hear them buzzing in there very loudly. He drew the size of the hive based on the heat signatures and it was HUGE. I had no idea if there were any cracks in the fireplace brick that would have allowed them inside the house. He taped up the fireplace flue from the inside as a preventative measure. We had to go upstairs and close the door just in case. He warned me that the scent from both queens was now in my house and that more queens may find my house appealing based on that scent marking. I hired someone to plug any holes they could find up there, and I haven't seen any since, but the bee guy said he does a booming business, so it must not be illegal in my area since he advertises what he does right out in the open. The problem with leaving them alone goes beyond the risk of a sting or two. The bees build their honey combs inside the walls and when it gets hot, the honey leaks all over the insulation, drawing ants. The guy told me I was lucky in both cases that I called before they got the combs built and started making honey. It would have required a complete teardown and rebuild of the wall area that contained the bees and honey, costing me thousands of dollars. I had no choice but to have them killed. I felt awful about it, but couldn't find any other remedy. Thankfully, I haven't seen any bees around my home in a few years. I still get a sick feeling when I see a few, and I always try to follow them to see where they are going, hoping it isn't back to my roof. I periodically walk around and look at the roof area to see if I notice any bee activity. Sorry, I didn't mean to hijack your post here, but the information that it is illegal to kill them must not be true when you are facing major expensive repairs to your home. I didn't want someone to have a hive take over their home and have them experience the very costly repairs they would face if they thought you can't remove bees from your home. Everywhere I called told me to have them killed. Now if they were in an outside box like the OPs, I would think someone could move them. Inside my walls, not so much.

Lexica what a thing to go through! Bet you learned more about bees than you ever wanted to know! Yeah, I suppose. I just felt terribly guilty that they are struggling to survive, and here I had no alternative other than to kill hundreds of them. I felt awful both times. If someone ever buys and remodels my house, they are going to be scratching their heads and wondering why my walls had buckets of bee bodies in them. I hope the professional is able to get to your bees first.
