I only wear a ponytail if I'm working out. Otherwise it's usually down and straight (I use a flat iron). Sometimes I'll curl it. My opinion is if you are only going to wear a ponytail than long hair isn't for you.

I put it in a loose-ish ponytail and then clip the hanging part up. DH is happy because my hair is long and I'm happy because it's out of my way and not in a tight ponytail. Eta : I'm 49. The length of my hair has more to do with how often I remember to go get it cut than any conscious decision. Me too

The length of my hair is dictated by what style looks best with my face. Which means it's slightly past shoulder length and is wavy. I don't think age should have anything to do with hair length once you are old enough to take care of your hair yourself.
If I am going out of the house, I style my hair. It takes me 10-15 minutes, max, so it's not exactly a high maintenance styling. Every once in a while, I'll decide to straighten it and that takes much longer.
The exception would be if I am spending the day working in the yard and need to run to the garden center or Walmart-- then it's in a ponytail. I would never go to work in a ponytail unless I was planning on cleaning out our closets, because I don't think that looks professional.

If I wear my hair short I look older (people have been so nice to let me know). I wear it with side bangs, layers on the sides and the back is down past my bra strap. Ninety-five percent of the time I wear it down at work. In the summer and weekends, I will wear a ponytail or clip. I know a lot of people that want longer hair and don't want to mess with it. Do what you want. I think your clothes say more about you (stylewise) than your hairstyle.

Long, past my shoulder blades. I wash every three days and only use one heat process per day. So day one is wash and blow out if I don't have time to air dry. Day two is curl with a styling wand. Day three is brush the curls out for a softer curl. Then the next day I wash it again.
I've been blessed with hair that has gained a lot of body and thickness as I've aged. It also takes a curl now like it never took one before. I don't even have to use product to get the curls to stay for two days. It's crazy. My hair may be more than 25% gray, but that grey is easy to cover and has come with a lot of advantages.

In in tidy bun with the caveat my hair is quite curly so the new growth that isn't long enough to be held back ends up in little ringlets around various places so there is a bit of a messy component to it. I don't use any product to stick my hair down. It is what it is.

I don't know what the style is called, but I pull back the hair from my ears forward and put it in a small clip. The clip is on the back of my head. The rest of my hair is loose and straight. I do not like the way I look this way, but it is so much easier than styles I have had in the past. In order to get curls, I have to get perms and I don't want to do that anymore. I got such a funny image of you pulling back your ear hair Then I read the rest and realized you were describing what I do! Mine is shoulder length, and that wavy/curly/straight/can't make up its mind texture... It's wash and go with me - I let it air dry on the way to work either down or half up, and leave it half up or twist and clip it all up for the day... I always have an elastic with me and as soon as I get irritated with it, it all goes up in a loose bun (with random bits sticking out)... I've always wanted a proper hair do - it seems like it's a very grown-up thing to have...

Slightly shorter than chin-length bob, no bangs. I part it on the side. If I have long hair I have it in a ponytail. Which is why I don't let it grow that long any more.

I hate my hair. It is so straight and flat, and with my longish thin face, it's not a good look for me. I spend about 30-60 minutes curling my hair every day, depending on what I am doing. I use Curl Secret because it will hold the curls for part of the day. I use a ton of hair spray. I try to get perms every couple of years, but they have to use the smallest curlers and about 2 perm solutions to get any curl at all. It does a lot of damage to my hair, so I don't get them as much as I need to. I wish I had the face shape for straight hair! Then I could wash it and let it air dry. It looks like I straightened it it is so straight!

My hair is long, thick and black. It's naturally wavy so it curls easily or straightens easily. I like variety so I do a lot of up do's with braids, twirls, buns, chignons, high pony tail, half up/down, big curls blown out and down. Depends on the outfit, the activity and the weather. I never leave the house without my makeup and hair done. I also don't like using a lot of product and prefer my hair to dry naturally. So, a bit of finishing spray, or a heat styling serum if I use a blow dryer/curling iron on it.
I was highly influenced with the books I read about young girls wearing their hair down and once they reached a certain age they could start wearing it up. You see it in shows like Little House On The Prairie and my favorite, Anne of Green Gables. I just really love an up do!

My opinion is if you are only going to wear a ponytail than long hair isn't for you. Not in my case. I always make sure my hair is long enough to put in a ponytail. If it's not, I'd have to wear a headband or side clips to keep it off my face and I hate wearing headbands and side clips.

My hair is past my shoulders, curly and thick. How I wear it has more to do with what kind of hair-day I'm having than what I'm doing. I usually wash and let it air dry and wear it down, but if it's humid, rainy or windy it will get very big and frizzy so up it goes.
I've had short hair before and it requires a lot more effort to keep it looking decent with my unruly curls.

I straighten my hair unless it is humid outside. Then it curls up. I don't want it to do that but it does that for some reason. It is not long or short. Say just past my shoulders or so. I will get it cut the next colour I get.

Just like in my avatar. It's longer now but I almost always blow dry it and wear it down. I only wear a pony tail when working out. If I am at the beach or pool I'll wear it up in a messy bun.

I have long hair - past the middle of my back. I'm 54 and it's in a ponytail today. I have dance class after work so Tuesdays are ponytail days. I usually wear it down - sometimes straight, sometimes curled, sometimes up in a knot in one of these awesome hair doo-dads I got at the renaissance festival. I wear my hair the way I like it - if someone else thinks I'm "too old" to wear a ponytail, it's not my problem.

I have shoulder length curly hair. I usually do wear it down when I'm out and about, but as soon as I'm home I tend to pull it into a ponytail or bun.
I definitely don't agree that ponytails are *only* for housework or working out.

I have never been one to wear a ponytail for everyday wear. I do wear a ponytail when working out and when out in the boat in the summer. My hair tangles very easily and pulling it back in a ponytail out on the water makes it easier when we get off the water.

I have curly hair but wear it straight. It looks better that way.
I pretty much always wear it down except on the weekends I wear ponytail. Also when I'm working out I wear a ponytail.

I have long hair, and wear it down, partially down, or in a ponytail. A ponytail can be done stylish, and not just for workouts. I use bobby pin, a back combing brush, and some hair spray. It doesn't take long to do my hair. If I just want my hair out of my face, I can do a side part, then braid the front portion up to my temple, and use to bobby pins to keep it out of my face. Or I can back comb the center section, back comb to make a puff, and pin it to the back. www.cosmopolitan.com/style-beauty/beauty/advice/a6123/life-changing-bobby-pin-tricks/www.youtube.com/watch?v=iEU91pzf7CQ

I have long hair, and I do a progression of hairstyles in between washes. Day One - Down Day Two - If I blew my hair out the day before, then it's down again. Otherwise, it's ponytail day Day Three - Ponytail Day Four - Topknot
Rinse and repeat.

I almost always wear a pony tail or messy bun. The only time I wear it down and styled is when I go out on a date night with hubby or special occasion.

As I have gotten older, (I'm 54) my hair has gotten more curly. My hair just touches my shoulders and I usually blow dry and straighten everyday. But.... in the last couple of weeks I have gotten out my old hot rollers!!! I have been putting my hair in curlers as soon as I get up in the morning and taking it down 30-40 minutes later when I have done everything else I need to do before work. Brush out, spray and leave. Hot rollers need to make a comeback!

I wash, dry, and style my hair daily. It is usually always down or partially down. On occasion I will wear it in a low ponytail after I backcomb to make a poof and use a couple pins to keep it in. My hair is baby fine and naturally curly. Some days I straighten it, other days I just use the roll brush and let it be poofy. Sometimes I use the curling iron to control the curl.
If you passed me on the street chances are you would see it just how it is in my avatar.

My hair is long and straight.
I most often start out the day with it down. About 50% of the time I end the work day with it in a ponytail. About 95% of the time I have it in a ponytail by bedtime.

My hair is short <------ I had it cut from being very long just before Christmas last year. I hate it, it's much harder to dry and style than long hair and I still need to straighten the front most days to stop it doing this ridiculous flick thing on my glasses. I can't wait for it to grow.
