My 15yo DD has really wanted a job. We saw on facebook that a local organic farm was hiring laborers 14 and up for 5 hour shifts, picking berries and weeding fields.
She went today and applied, went through orientation, and starts work tomorrow morning at 6:00AM.
Proud of my introverted kid, for being willing to go do something that was difficult for her. Plus she gets paid $9.50 and hour.
I am really thankful a local business like this - is willing to invest in kids.

That is awesome!! That is going to be hard, hard work but she is going to get a lot out of it. I learned more working in high school than I did from many of my classes. You definitely have a reason to be proud!

Good for her - for not being afraid of hard work as much as anything else. I hope she has some nice things lined up to do with some of her wages.

Yeah for her! That's great that she did it all by herself too! I have heard strange stories about parents coming with their kids on job interviews in my area. DH was interviewing a woman a few months back and the husband was texting her during interview with prompts, questions, and supplying answers? He did not hire him. .

Good for her! My teen is working this summer as well only his job keeps him up late. He got a job at the movie theater. He loves it; it's perfect for a night owl like him.

Go ahead and brag away! I too love it when local small employers give teens a chance.

Good for her! She will probably always remember this job with fondness.
I don't know why, but even the super-crappy summer jobs were so much fun. The bakery job where I started at 3:30am every day. The time I worked at a big festival frying chicken in stifling heat under a tent for 15 hours straight. The summer I worked with a crew in a nature park and we built two footbridges over a creek. We were all under 18 so we could only use manual tools. I hammered by hand every single plank in those bridges because I was the best with a hammer. Those jobs all were horrible and I loved every one of them.

My DD is working on a farm too, this is her 4th year. She really likes it. They have strawberries, blueberries and corn.
