Ok I just about died laughing when I saw Sarah Palin with Alec Baldwin. And yes, the red carpet only just started airing on the west coast. I miss when I used to get HD channels on the EST feed.

The special had made me laugh and cry and laugh again. I don't watch SNL anymore, so they're hitting the high marks of the years that I did watch.

I really barely watched SNL at all. I was either too young or I was working or out with friends on Saturday nights. Some of the skits just made it into our cultural literacy so without having watched the show very often, I knew them.
I think the most I watched SNL was when Tina Fey was doing Sarah Palin.
I also make it a point to watch when certain celebrities (Justin Timberlake and others) are hosting.

Love the classic stuff. The new stuff not so much! it's amazing how much I remember and I remember where I was when I watched it. This was way back before high school. Early 80's stuff. Chevy Chase HOLY COW!! Yup I think I'm behind too.

I was in my sophomore year of college and remember watching the first episode with my husband (we had been dating about a year at that time). Parts of this show are poignant like seeing the late greats like Gilda Radner and John Belushi. Parts are pretty funny and parts are downright stupid. Just like the show has been for 40 years. LOL I did just add the SNL app to my iPad so I'm eager to watch those initial episodes.
Oh yuck, Kanye is on now. Guess it's time to use the bathroom. LOLOL

There are some lesser known case members that I would have liked to see: Mary Gross, Tim Kazurinsky, Nora Dunn. But then again, I remember laughing at Anthony Michael Hall doing Craig Sundberg, Idiot Savant, which explains kind of a lot about my sense of humor. "Really? I'm sorry."

Paul Simon sounded great, much better than Paul McCartney. Loved Simon's choice of song - just perfect for this show.

Well, that wasn't what I expected, although I'm not sure how I thought they were going to celebrate 40 years. Glimpses of great comedians, skits and guests. I'll have to go to youtube to catch some of my favorites.
