I'm 49, in the middle of menopause and at my recent visit to my OBY/GYN that have seen for years ( delivered all the three babies) gave me a "come to Jesus" meeting about my weight. I'm 5'4 and at the time I weighed 169. I also have arthritis ( Psoriatic ) and three other autoimmune diseases and honestly I'm usually too tired to excercise , I was eating what I wanted and even though my rheumatologist pushed me into water therapy this winter because I was having terrible back pain and fatigue and although she encouraged me to do water aerobics regularly, I rarely was doing it on a regular basis.
Then my husband found "My Fitness Pal" app and started using it. I was skeptical, but a month had passed and I had gained another pound and a half! So...I downloaded it 15 days ago and I lost 1.5 pounds the first week. And....I ve been going to aquacise at a hospital fitness center 3x a week.
I've been reading about the Fitbit tracker and although it's not waterproof ( it's water "resistant") and I just don't wear it in the pool, I'm TOTALLY addicted to it. It came on Friday and I'm a fan!I love the app, it's compatable with "My Fitness Pal" and I really feel like I accomplish something every day for ME!
Do you any of you have one ? It's a bit pricey ($99) but I feel like it's going to keep me motivated and with the other app, it's cheaper than Weight Watchers.

Yay for you! Take a look at the AchieveMint app. It syncs to My Fitness Pal and the FitBit app and you can earn a $50 gift card as you improve your health. I joined AchieveMint a month ago, and I'm up to $39,000 points.

Yes I use both! I find it motivating too. I have lost about 15 lbs. My user name for MFP is the same - baseballmom23 if you want to become MFP friends.

I love my Fitbitch! I have really found it helpful in keeping me motivated and on track.
When I first got, Christmas 2013, I could barely walk 500 hundred steps a day due to knee and feet problems. I kept trying though, sometimes just walking circles around the inside of the house just to get my step count up. Of course, I was also doing exercises to strengthen my leg muscles, but most of efforts went to just walking.
This year, I have lost more than 30 lbs since Jan 1, and I'm doing more steps in a day than I did last year in a week. I still have days where my legs and feet just don't want to move, but I force myself to get up and move enough to make my minimum step count. I know that if I don't make that minimum, I won't want to get on the scale the next day and I MAKE myself weigh daily.
Shhh, I'll share a secret with you- if the massive amount of water I've drank today doesn't mess me up, I'll be in a new century tomorrow. The first time I'll have been below the century I in in over 5 years! I. So excited!!!!! I hit a plateau recently and I wanted to give up. I didn't though and now my numbers are going down again.

I love my Fitbit! I panicked the other day when I realized it had gone thru the wash - but it still works perfectly!

I've been looking at the fitbit. I use the MyFitnessPal App and have lost just under 20 pounds since April. Good to hear others think it is useful.

I use My Fitness Pal and love how easy it is. If you have an iPhone, it will count your steps. Not sure of the accuracy, but still fun to have.

I love my Fitbit Flex! I am on My Fitness Pal too (ldalvarado) if anyone wants to friend me. Both help keep me accountable.

Is the fit bit better than the fit bit flex? Is the flex the one you wear on your arm? Where do you were the fit bit?

I've had my FitBit for about 9 months. I got it when I decided it was time for me to get active again after being diagnosed with a back problem. I've gone from about 500 steps a day to about 6,000. I'm no Olympic athlete, but I feel so much better. I haven't lost a lot of weight, but now that my count is a lot higher and I'm doing strength training I expect that to change

I've only ever had the clip on one because I don't like wearing plastic/rubbery stuff on my skin (I'm weird, lol) You can clip it on your pocket or waist, but I wear mine on my left bra strap.

I use a Fitbit Zip and really like it. I also use Map my Fitness. I didn't buy the Flex because I didn't want to wear something on my wrist. The zip runs off a battery so that will have to be changed periodically rather than being able to charge. It is small and I usually just clip it to my waist band. It can also be clipped to a bra strap.

Your story and stats are very similar to mine. Currently weigh 147 down from 170 6 months ago using my fitness pal but no fit bit. Been thinking about getting one. Enjoy the fitbit and your healthier self!

Great job everyone who is making positive changes! I have the FitBit Zip and also use My Fitness Pal. For the Zip, I clip it to my bra and forget it is there!

Is the fit bit better than the fit bit flex? Is the flex the one you wear on your arm? Where do you were the fit bit? The fitbit is the little black module that goes IN the armband. It will also track your sleep (which I do-it's so interesting to see how many minutes I was "restless."). The Fitbit Flex includes the Fitbit and two armbands of the same color but one is sized small (that's what I wear) and the other is large. My husbandis "allegedly" buying his soon and we're going to swap out colors. The Fitbit Flex is $99. The 9one that you clip on is $59 but it does t track your sleep and I didn't go that route because I'm terrible about keeping up with things and I already know one person in my Aqua Zumba class that lost hers-it fell off.

I have a fit bit but I haven't used it yet. I'm really looking forward to seeing this as a possible continuing thread.
