I've mentioned my arm/elbow problems here a few times. I finally saw an orthopedist last week, he diagnosed me with tendonitis, gave me a shot in my elbow (ouch!) and gave me a brace to wear on my forearm. It all seems to be working -- I still have a little pain at my elbow, but the unbearable shooting pains that ran down my arm and into my hand have stopped.
I've been wearing the brace continually except for when I bathe. I took it off today for an hour because I was going somewhere dressed up, was wearing short sleeves and didn't want it showing. The skin there is itchy and there are some raised bumps. Can I get away with taking it off for a few hours every day? The doctor didn't specify, and I don't go back to see him until the end of March.

Mine told me to only wear mine when I was working and take it off when I'm resting.

Mine said all the time, except when bathing. I suppose like anything else it depends on your injury, your doc, and how fast you want to heal.

Mine said not to wear it while sleeping and also sent me to PT. My physical therapist said to wear it if it was helping, sometimes it seemed to cause more pain. She also gave me icing (helps the most) and exercises to help strengthen the muscles in that area (although we didn't start those until I was mostly pain free).

I have a brace for my elbows that I put mid way between my elbow and wrist. When my tendinitis kick up I wear the brace 24 7 except when I am showering or heat treating it. I can't do ice It makes it hurt worse (the cold weather affects my tendinitis) I also have tendinitis is my shoulders and have a brace for my upper arm as well. same thing wear it 24 7. there is times I have to take it off when I sleep. The brace will start bothering me when I am sleeping so I will take it off. I can usually get over the pain in a few weeks. The unfortunate thing is my arms have gotten major time weaker in the past 25 years because of the tendinitis.

Not in the shower or sleeping.
What worked for me though, was accupuncture. 5 sessions, and it felt great.

I was told to wear the brace 24/7, especially when sleeping because I curl my hand under when I sleep. It's hard to wear it at night because I always seem to get my hair cought in the Velcro.

I wore mine when I was awake. I tried to wear it while sleeping but at some point in my sleep I'd manage to take it off.

This seems like a question you should direct to your doctor about your personal situation. If you're not going back to see him until March, I would leave a message with his office staff to clarify his recommendation.

Some of my co-workers went to him and highly recommended him. I was terrified at first because I'm really afraid of needles, but it was a super positive experience. He is amazing. I've been to him for 2 or 3 different issues and he's helped with all of them.

This is me, exactly. I would curl my hand and place it under my chin without realizing I was doing it. With it in the brace, I didn't do that anymore. And my hair got caught in it too. I now stick the brace on and keep it on for a few days at the slightest sensation of the tendonitis. I can usually get it to back down within four or five days. I also take an anti inflammatory and muscle relaxant for a few days too.

I have anti-inlammatory meds (Motrin) but no muscle relaxant. Maybe I should try that.
