I'm not quite sure I'm understanding your question accurately but I'll give it my best shot When I first started Scrapbooking - all my supplies fit into an underbed box with space to spare. I don't really want to go back to that but I'm still pretty minimalist compared to many. Have-to-have - cardstock, patterned paper, paper cutter, adhesive, journalling pen nice-to-have - embellishments, alpha stickers, templates (I love my colourblocking templates); ink and stamps for cards; extras that I could do without but enjoy - Cricut with SCAL; QK handle /Epic 6 and dies; Crop-a-dile Storage? with the exception of the Cricut which lives on my computer table - all of my scrapbooking stuff fits on/under a 6' table with a 4-drawer cart next to it. I'm sure I could manage a smaller space -especially if it had more vertical storage (like an armoire or shelving above). Albums are on a bookcase in another room except for the one in progress

As a story-focused, simple, clean-lined, cardstock-intensive, actual memorabilia, traditional scrapper, my minimum supplies would be:
Minimum Items: What do you REALLY need to paper craft? Paper trimmer, clear t-ruler, adhesive, cardstock, & black pen.
Minimum Space: Use for ? At least a 13" square area to craft, Cropper Hopper Paper Holders to organize cardstock, & a desktop organizer to hold the trimmer, ruler, & pen.

I craft for memory preservation and for an artistic outlet.
But if I were telling a newbie I'd say Computer and printer, cardstock and pattern paper, cutterbee scissors, Paper trimmer, ruler, adhesive, archival pens, 2 sizes of Alphabet stamps and archival ink (to create your own titles without investing tons into Thickers/stickers). And lots of odd bits that you have around the house to add to the pages.
Space: computer and printer is already set up, I'd put the scissors, ruler, pens, stamps and ink in some sort of artbin or other tote and the paper can go in an artbin, cropper hopper or other favorite storage. Storage Space minimal - maybe an expedit square. Creative Space - desktop, kitchen table.

I've been scrapbooking for almost 20 years now and I started out with just an XXL for my paper and a table top carrier for my tools. I used to keep it in a spare closet and just pull it out and scrap on my kitchen table. I kept it pretty neat so it was easy to tuck everything away for dinner. There are lots of portable scrappers that don't have a dedicated space so they need to keep everything in a closet. Minimum Items: What do you REALLY need to paper craft? We sell a basic beginners kit for scrapbookers. It includes: Adhesive, Paper Trimmer, Scissors, Pen/Marker for journaling and a pack of cardstock in a variety of colors all contained in one 17x17 plastic storage box. It's less than $100. We don't include an album or refill pages simply because we have a huge variety people can choose from. They vary in price from $15-50. Honestly, you can scrapbook with just those items. Now realistically, that's not enough for most people as they all like the extra stickers, embellishments, etc. But that's something you can add on as you go, or just purchase for those specific pages you're scrapping. If you want to keep your storage space to a minimum, crop at a store so you can buy as you use. Then all you have to bring along is your tools and photos. Minimum Space: Like I said above, most basic tools can be kept in a 17x17 plastic case if you really want to be minimalistic. The more paper you accumulate, you could get by with an XXL tote or one of the pretty totes from We R Memory Keepers. There are lots of extra pockets for pens, punches, tools and other stuff. www.awdml.com

I find that -- for me -- it really takes very little tools/supplies (other than patterned paper and a few embellishments) to make a layout I'm proud of.
My essentials would be a paper trimmer, scissors, an adhesive runner, pop dots, corner rounders, a ruler, a pencil, and inks for edging. If I have that, I'm good!

I need a room, at the very least. I can't work in common areas like dining rooms, bedrooms, etc. I need a dedicated space.

Everything I have. I wouldn't have bought it if I didn't need it.
A permanent space of a large table (8 feet or more). A temporary crop-event space of a half a table.

When I started out I had everything in underbed storage and would craft on the dining room table and put it all away after a session. I think you can actually do a lot with a bit of paper, some basic tools like scissors, paper trimmer and adhesive and a good pen for journaling. Now I've taken over the former study as my craft room and have tables all along one wall so I have an area to scrap/card make as well as one for my big shot and sewing machine. And I have a *few* supplies on the shelves

I need a room, at the very least. I can't work in common areas like dining rooms, bedrooms, etc. I need a dedicated space. and I'm completely the opposite and prefer to be in a common area - I have a section of the family room now - had a desk in the kitchen at the last house. I did have a dedicated craft room here briefly but it felt so isolated that I didn't miss it when the girls stopped sharing a room and that room became a bedroom

^Linda, me, too. I first scrapped from a mini-book kit. I only bought the kit, a paper trimmer and some adhesive. Added my photos and that was it! I think that's as minimal as you can get!

Kath- I laughed so hard. That's a good one. Minimum- Xacto Knife, metal ruler, dry adhesive, set of journaling pens. I know everyone says just one black pen. One black pen? I don't understand this concept. What about colors! . I need colors. Computer, printer & an electronic die cutter. Minimum Space- I scrapped for the longest time from a small basket of my tools on my desk and a small rubbermaid container underneath my desk.
