Just need to vent for a second - and then I need a recommendation for a new paper trimmer!!!
I had a 3" wide Fiskars paper trimmer for years. A couple of years ago, I got a 6" wide one and loved it... until the wire frayed. I traded it at Michael's and the new wire frayed almost immediately. I should have got a refund, but like an idiot, I traded it in again... and now the third trimmer wire has frayed. This one probably lasted 6 months. I'm over Fiskars!!!
Any recommendations for a good paper trimmer? I would prefer it to have at least a 6" wide platform. I need it to be easily moveable. I don't have space for a big guillotine cutter.

I have the Making Memories Precision 12x12 cutter. It folds in half and has a self-sharpening blade. Some people were having issues with the grid not being straight. But I don't have that problem.

I have had my wire Fiskars one for several years, but the first one I got frayed immediately. My Making Memories Precision one is not straight but makes a good cut. I am looking at a Purple Cow one. So frustrating.

I've had both of my fiskars for a few years. My friend bought one in the last year and her wire frayed last weekend while we scrapped. so odd, I had never heard of that problem. I really want the little creative memories guillotine cutter.

I have that same Fiskars Wire Trimmer. What do you mean by "frayed" wire? I have noticed that mine is not quite as accurate as it originally was, but the wire still is in place. I like the wider bed on it.

Doesn't Fiskars have a lifetime warranty? Don't quote me on that but for some reason I think I've heard something like that before. In any event, they apparently have awesome customer service and they are very aware of the fraying wire issue. I'd call or email them and see what they say/do.

Bloom43 Sometimes the wire becomes loose and the blade will cut the wire. It looks frayed.

I finally gave in and bought the new Stampin' Up trimmer. On one of these threads that trimmer received lots of great reviews, so after 15 years of fiskars, I am switching. I was using it at a crop and it truly is a really nice trimmer.

I read several threads on two peas about wires fraying on Fiskars paper cutters and then read that the company had fixed the problem. I bought one last year I believe and haven't had a problem with it. I have the SureCut Deluxe. Maybe you could contact Fiskars instead of Michael's. I think if I got a new trimmer I'd go with an EK Tools Straight Edge Trimmer. I also have a MM Precision trimmer but I prefer a trimmer like the EK or Fiskars because I can lift the blade partway through a cut, unlike the MM.

This is the only thing I don't like about my MM trimmer. In the case that I need to make a partial cut, I use my old fiskars trimmer.

I had my Fiskers for several years before the wire frayed. The company has great customer service and will replace the wire for free.

Yes, they have awesome customer service. I had a trimmer that the ruler markings where the blade is rubbed off. I sent them pictures and they sent me a new one. Same thing happened with the next one. I cut out the centers of my paper to save paper so I use that ruler a lot. When moving the blade prior to cutting, my fingers would slide on the underside causing the markings to rub off (which shouldn't happen). So I emailed them again when it happened to the replacement. They then sent me the one with the wire because they no longer make the other one. I have had the one with the wire for 2 1/2 years and haven't had any problems whatsoever. Not with the wire fraying or with the numbers wearing off (the blade track lifts up opposite of on this one than the other one so my fingers no longer rub the numbers).

I just bit the bullet and got a Purple Cow two in one cutter. It will cut up to ten pieces of paper at a time and this summer I am going to make kits. I don't know why I waited so long.

I really like my SU trimmer BUT have been without a paper trimmer while here at the convention because my blade wore out and is tearing my paper. Of course I can't find my spare set, put them some where safe and can't remember where that is Also, remember to get enough blades so you don't have to place and order just for blades, that's where I'm at right now

I saw this old CM "style" small paper trimmer that is a new style for Fiskars. I must have missed this announcement during CHA 2015 news. I like the white clean style of this better than CM one anyway....I might have to buy this one! store.scrapbook.com/f-195950-1001.html

I'm sorry I wish I paid attention but of course I didn't. I would say not any more then other cutters. But now that you've asked I think I'll make a note of the date I put the new blade in on the underside so I can see!

I go through fiskars blades like water, so I am hoping for much better with this trimmer. I only ordered 2 replacement blades and 2 of those rubber things.

I have the 6"base tonic guillotine cutter, which works great..although the newer ones come with orange instead of the silver color ruler which I think is harder to read. I also have a fiskar and the small cm cutter.....
I switch based on what I'm cutting and I think the fact that I switch so much makes my frustration level with accuracy less.....I have to say the SU cutter has me a little interested ....

If you have a problem with any Fiskars product, send them a nice email with a photo of the problem. You will get, in return, a nice solution. They sent me a new trimmer. In my years of papercrafting I have found most trimmer problems stem from not taking the time sit down and figure out how to personally use the tool. Everybody is a little different. Some push, some pull, some fast, some slow. Each has to find what works for them on a consistent basis. And this goes for any tool.

I've had 2 Fiskars (without the wire) and another brand that was made by Fiskars - hated them all, I'll never buy another one. I'm now using a Kaszazz trimmer and love it. Best I've ever used and it was only $19.95 - so cheap when the SU is $49.95 over here. Sorry OP, I know that's not answering your question, but it does one good to vent a bit sometimes. lol.
* Kaszazz is Australias own direct selling paper craft company, like your SU or CTMH.

I love the Fiskars Procision trimmer. A bit pricey but with a coupon at Joann it was more reasonable. I also had the wire one and not only did I go through blades like crazy, the wire frayed and broke. Rotary is the only way to go with Fiskars in my opinion.

I'm a Fiskars loyalist through and through! They have been gracious and generous on the very few times I've called on them for customer service. Yes - their products carry a lifetime guarantee and they honor it. I have a couple of the "Old Gray" trimmers, a table rotary style, and several of the wire personal trimmers. All I have to do is make sure I'm using a decent blade -- and the blades even last a long time! If you are having trouble with a Fiskars product, give them a chance to shine with their exemplary customer service.

I love Fiskars - I use the 12" one with the wire... I just ordered the 9" Tonic guillotine because I wanted to also have a guillotine style one...
I wish either Fiskars or Tonic would make a 8-1/2 or 9" guillotine, that had an extendable ruler to 8-1/2 or 9" also... I do 8x8 layouts so it would be perfect for me... Just seems really limiting when the ruler only goes to 4 or 5"... Yes, I could do the math and cut off the other side... I'd just love to have a ruler built in...

I just got a Fiskars one and the blade keeps falling out. It's not broke but its always slipping out of the slit thingy. Also my wire (so far) hasn't frayed but its always off in measurement. Im not too happy with it to be honest.

Yup, this is the best trimmer for me. I love it so much I have three of them---office, home, and spare. I love the self sharpening blade. I've had them both for years and the blades are as sharp as ever. After years of replacing the blades over and over on my old Fiskars Trimmer, I was thrilled to find the Making Memories trimmer.
