So read the article or skip it if you want, but try the green square thing with no cheating, okay? I'm trying to see if there is a pattern between what color the dress looked to you and whether or not you can pick out the right green square and how easily. www.msn.com/en-us/news/technology/no-one-could-see-the-color-blue-until-modern-times/ar-BBi3GwPThe article talks about how people didn't recognize the color blue until much later than we seemed to recognize other colors.

Very interesting article!! I didn't see the different square... After seeing the answer key I guess I could 'maybe' imagine that it was different, slightly, but I still wouldn't say I could pick it out.
(ETA: I saw the dress as white and gold/taupe, and still can't make myself see it as blue and black)

I picked it out, but found it subtle. And the dress is black and blue to me.

I found it easily but could not identify (explain?) why I thought it was that one. The first pictures I saw of the dress it looked white & gold although subsequently I've seen both colour ways. Not sure that's very helpful!

I saw the dress the same way Adobe did, sort of a periwinkle blue and brown. But I thought it was just a white balance problem. I read that MSN article earlier today and it was really interesting! I couldn't pick out the green square.

I saw the dress as white and gold for the first few times I looked at it. I only ever see black and blue now. I spotted the different green square right away.

I first saw the dress in white and gold - then light blue and tan - then dark blue and black. Now I seem to only see it in the dark blue and black. I could not pick out the different green and even after seeing which one it was they still all look alike.

The dress looks black and blue to me. I could pick out the green color fairly quickly. I tried to see the dress as white and gold and couldn't do it. Strange.

I can only see the dress as blue/black and was able to pick out the different green square. It's just a little lighter than the other ones.

My eye was immediately drawn to that green square but I couldn't explain why. I just knew it was different somehow. I saw the dress and white and gold.

At first, I didn't see it, but I tipped my laptop screen forward just a tad, and I could barely see the difference.
ETA: The dress looked white and gold to me.

S basically this thread says there is no pattern at all. Aw well, it would have been fun if there had been a pattern. For me, the dress was always blue no matter what they did to the photo, and I spotted the different shade of green immediately.

I couldn't see a difference, even after I knew the correct answer. I saw the dress as white and gold. And I work a lot with paint--so I thought if get it right. Hmmm

I can only see the dress as white/gold in a bad lighting situation. I can't see the difference in the green square but that doesn't really surprise me. I know in the past I've had trouble with tests that include color sequencing (put these squares in a progressive order based on shades)

I saw the square once I tilted my monitor screen. It was a very subtle difference, and I couldn't see it at first.
The dress question confused me...on my monitor, it clearly shows up as light blue and golden brown, but my brain assumes it is white and gold, poorly exposed. I still have a hard time seeing how anyone can perceive the gold color as black!

That's a really interesting article!!
I thought that the top 3 squares were a darker shade of green than the others, but it could have been my laptop screen. I tilted it several different angles but the top 3 always looked darker.

I've only seen the gold and white dress, and I've looked a few times, and couldn't pick the off green square.

I couldn't pick out the different square and I also saw the dress as white and gold initially. Later I began to see a light blue and a brown. After the learning which green square is different, I could see that it has more of a yellow tint than the others.

My 15 year old son has some colour blind. He sees yellow/gold as green and white as white. Reds and pinks look grey to him. Brown looks orange (he was surprised to find that peanut butter is not orange). He can't tell the difference between different shades of colours. In science class he couldn't do an exercise because he had to see different shades of blue and they all looked the same to him. So he was highly amused about this dress story since there were normal seeing people seeing different things! While he saw the dress as green and white.

I enjoyed that article. I have only seen the dress as blue and black. Even when shown the different green square, I don't see the difference.

I did not see the green square at all - not one bit.
I always saw the dress as periwinkle blue and dark brown, so when I saw it as white and burnished gold it scared me. Now I often see the white and gold but it immediately starts turning into blue and brown.
Interestingly, I have blue eyes, I only use one eye at a time to see (alternating isotropia) and I cannot see 3D. So what ever causes it is not any of those things.

I saw the dress as white and gold (with bad white balance). I couldn't see the different square.
Dd saw the dress as blue and black and immediately picked out the different square.

I saw the different green square straight away - it seems to have more yellow in it than the other squares.
How I saw the dress depended on which monitor I was looking at, white and gold on the PC, blue and brown on the iPad. I didn't see any black at all.

From the first photo in that thread, the dress was white & bronzy-gold. In other photos, it was blue & brown and if I squinted hard, then there was no doubt it was blue & black.
I could not pick out the green square, but that's at least partially because of my astigmatism. It's really noticeable to me when anything's laid out in a circle like that. I'd like to think I could tell the difference on a larger screen and laid out in a different pattern. IDK

I couldn't see a difference, really, in the green squares. I don't know if that has anything to do with my monitor, though, or not. I only see the dress as white and gold, except for the ones where they adjusted the colors in the entire photo.

Blue and black dress and I couldn't distinguish the green square. It looked off but I wasn't quite sure what I was "supposed" to see.

I don't see the blue square, except in the picture of the girl looking at the computer monitor. I also see the dress as gold and white...although it's a washed out brown, and a pale blue in my eyes. But in the top of this article, the dress is clearly black and blue.
I'm usually dead on with colors too, I've done those color tests where you have to put them all in order, and I've scored almost perfect every time!
