Just got finished with my pre-op bloodwork. My ablation is scheduled for Thursday morning.
If you've had an ablation, can you tell me what to expect as far as recovery time? Pain?
Tell me it's going to be okay.

You'll do great! I had mine last July...had some cramping afterward for a few hours, so I took the prescribed pain meds (2 doses) and was comfortable by that evening. I was back to normal activity the next day, with some very light spotting for about a week. Best thing I've ever done...worked like a charm for me...most months I don't have any cramping/bleeding, but have had some very light spotting for 3 months from July to now. My GYN thinks I'll eventually get to no period at all. Good luck, again you'll do just fine!

It's been years since my ablation, but my experience was similar to the PP's. Quick recovery, maybe a little cramping but fine by the next day. I never had another period afterwards. It was a great choice for me.
good luck to you and wishing you a speedy recovery and full success!!

I had the procedure done around 9 a.m., and by 4 or 5, I was absolutely fine. Was back to normal activity the next day. Three years later, I'm still pretty much period-less.

I had one 10 years ago. For me it was a piece of cake. I had the procedure in the morning. Took it easy for the rest of the day and was back to my normal routine the next day. I had no period for about four months then very light 2-3 day periods until menopause.
Sending prayers and positive thoughts @nicksmom

Thanks for sharing your experiences, peas.
I don't know why, but I'm a nervous wreck about this procedure. My doctor has fully explained everything to me, so I feel like I'm well informed. I don't know if I'm just scared it won't work or what. Can't wait for it to be over!

I had mine a few years ago, best thing I ever did. Oh how my life has improved, no more planning trips or events around the massacre that occurred every 25 days. I felt fine, I was a little sore the first bit but nothing to be too scared about. I did find though that that area was sensitive for about two weeks, if I did something too strenuous it would feel very heavy, but I just took it easy for a while.
Good luck, hope it works as well for you as it has for me!

The postop from the ablation was a breeze. I felt bad for a day or so and then felt a lot better. That being said, the ablation didn't work for me. I continued to bleed for months and still had periods. I opted for a hysterectomy about a week ago. The recovery for that one has been a lot harder.
Good luck with your procedure. I don't want to worry/stress you out, but was giving you another perspective.

I'm hoping for the best, but I know it's a possibility the procedure may not be successful.

They took me back at 7, in the OR by 7:45, awake in recovery by 8:45, and home by 10 and we live 25 minutes from the hospital. They totally kicked me out.
I laid in bed with my heating pad for a week, but I probably could have been back at it in 3-4 days, but I totally milked it.

I had mine a couple of years ago. I was totally fine the next day. My periods did not change right away. For 3 or 4 months I still had the bad cramping and heavy flow. Then they virtually disappeared. The last time I had anything you could call a period was October. It is wonderful.

Mine was done in December. I was terrified. My doctor did it in his office. He had me start Motrin 800 a couple days before, and take one an hour before the procedure along with a Vicodin. In the office I also got a shot in my ass...toridol? I was also given something similar to Ativan. Anyway, all that coupled with numbing of the cervix I felt nothing. I went in at 9 and was home by noon. By about 2 pm I was having some HORRIBLE cramping, but my doctor said I could take two Vicodin at a time. By 6 pm I was feeling much better. I had some mild cramps the next day and over the course of the next week. I then had a really watery discharge for about a month. It was bad. I came here to post about it....I needed poise pads as period pads don't hold watery liquids well. I almost felt like I couldn't go anywhere. Weird thing is it was there and then one day gone...no tapering off, just gone. I've had one period since my ablation (maybe two...not sure if one was a period), but it's been super light. So far I don't regret the ablation. I can now wear my cute underwear, and I don't have to plan activities around that time of the month.
