Is it warm enough the last week of March/ first week of April to really enjoy the beach?
I am seeing conflicting weather reports online.

It really depends. This winter has been pretty chilly even here in Florida. Destin is about as north as you can get. The water might still be too cold....it's only 61 right now in the water.

We're having a cold winter. Even though it was almost 70 today, by the end of the week, night temps will be back in the 30s. So, even if the weather itself is nice over Spring Break (and it may very well be), the water most likely won't be warm enough for swimming. You can still enjoy the beach, just not the water.

We went for spring break last year (also end of march/first of april) and it only warm enough for the beach a couple of days. The pool at the house we rented was heated, which was nice. The water park and some other activities don't open until May, though. Despite the weather last year we have booked another trip this year for spring breatk, the first week of April - there are many things to do even if the weather isn't perfect. We took a helicopter tour there last year - it was a blast www.tripadvisor.com/Attraction_Review-g34182-d3320233-Reviews-Timberview_Helicopters-Destin_Florida.html

Like others have said, it just depends. We used to go down there for spring break when I was growing up. Some years we had amazing weather and others it was cold and/or raining. More often it was a bit of a mix, with 2-3 good beach days, 1-2 colder overcast day, a rain day... we tried not to plan too far ahead and just enjoyed the beach if it was a good beach day and did other stuff if the weather stunk!

We vacation over our spring break (usually third or fourth week in March) in Grayton Beach, which is about 45 minutes from Destin. In the past three years, two times it was too cold/rainy to enjoy the beach. We always try to rent a house with a heated pool as we are aware that it is a crap shoot on warm weather that far north. I would not count on being able to have weather warm enough for swimming on the beach.

I also think that it depends on what kind of weather you are used to. If you are coming from negative degree temperatures, then it will possibly be okay for you. If you are coming from here-where it is in the 80's, then it will like still be too cold.
But if you are willing to leave the panhandle and head south toward the other end of the state, you are more likely to have warmer weather. I think people don't realize how LONG Florida really is and the temperatures can vary be 10 degrees or more from the north end to the lower end. Equally as hot in the summer, but definitely a difference in the winter/cooler months. It's weird...there is some kind of invisible line that cuts across the state around Gainesville that dictates the weather-cooler vs. warmer.
For example, I am in the middle of the state, and it is 85 right now. But up in Tallahassee, it is 74. This could explain why you are getting conflicting information.

I live in north central FLA and it can vary so much. This week has been in the 80s but we are getting a cold front tomorrow that will take us down at least 40 degrees or so. My DD is down in south FLA right now for her spring break and she said that it was too chilly in the water for her, but she has enjoyed the beautiful sunshine and sitting on the beach. Just depends on the day truly. But if you want a beautiful change of scenery -- come on!

Many years ago, we had two good spring breaks there in a row, then the next year, when we didn't go, it was in the 50s all week.
