I was thinking about this the other morning, that I used to wash and rinse my hair twice. Now, unless I forget what step I'm on (like last Monday!), I just wash and rinse once. Do you feel like the second time is needed, or is it a waste of time and shampoo?

I do not repeat. I also don't have a lot of product in my hair.

I have only ever done one cycle of shampoo and conditioner. My hair feels good after that, so why do it again?

Shampoo is really hard on hair. I only wash with shampoo once every 10 days to a week. Otherwise, I just rinse, "wash" with conditioner, rinse with cool water. Done!

I normally only lather and rinse once. The only times I re lather is when I've used a lot of product or used too much argan oil or other deep treatments. I can tell by how my hair feels after I rinse the first time whether or not I need a bit more shampoo.
In the past few years I've been able to go from needing to wash my hair daily or every other day to only needing to wash once or twice a week--depending on how much product I needed to use that week.
After several week long hospital visits where the nurses wouldn't let me shower and only let me take sponge baths, I noticed that my hair stopped getting so oily so quickly. I was able to go from washing every other day to washing every 3 days to washing every 5 days.
My hair has never looked or felt better. I no longer have as much dry scalp, and my hair is so silky and shiny.
My favourite shampoo and conditioner are Bumble & Bumble Colour minder. I also use their Colour minder styling balm with UV protection. My dark auburn and coppery highlights stay bright for twice as long.
I want to try B&B's hairdresser's oil heat/UV protectant for when I use my flat irons to style my short layers with more texture. I use B&B's Does It All texture spray and Sumotech "wax", but I've tried different heat protectant sprays and not found one that works well. When I use these texture products, I have to wash my hair more often.
Once a month I apply organic argan oil onto my scalp and then comb the oil through my hair. I also add a bit to the ends of my hair. The oil soaks in very well, and I keep it in my hair for 12-24 hours. When I do this, I do have to lather twice. I love this treatment because my hair looks amazing, my scalp isn't as dry, and the argan oil isn't greasy and so yucky that you feel like you have to wash it out immediately.
While Bumble and Bumble are more expensive, the products last forever. I only use about a nickel sized squirt of shampoo and a quarter sized squirt of conditioner. I only need 3 bottles of shampoo and conditioner a year and only have to replace the styling aids once every year or two.
Sephora and different salons sell a lot of travel sized bottles of different products, which is how I've tried and come to love so many of their products. I stocked up during Sephora's Black weekend sale.
My hair is very fine, but I have a ton of it. I've tried so many different brands and products and so many just made my hair heavy and greasy. My favourite hair stylist in Chicago recommended Bumble and Bumble to me after I had to stop using Aveda because of my allergies.
I really liked Redken and Frederick Fekkai, but I switched to sodium laurel sulfate free products at the recommendation of my dermatologist because the detergents were too harsh on my scalp and gave me a nasty rash. I also discovered that my hair colour lasted longer after I switched.
I recently tried OGX argan oil shampoo and conditioner when I ran out of my B&B and was waiting for my order to be shipped. I really liked it and wish they made a colour safe formula.
When I first discovered Trader Joe's, I started using Avalon Organic's Lavender shampoo until my stylist told me that Lavender strips colour out of your hair. It was a great deal for $6.

Unless you have a huge amount of product or treatment such as oil in your hair, you shouldn't ever shampoo twice. It strips the hair of its natural oils and isn't necessary. I admit I used to like to feel my hair "squeak" when I shampooed it, but I've been told by so many hairdressers you don't want it to feel that way. I use a quality shampoo and conditioner, and wash every second day and find that is an ideal routine for my hair.

After being around a campfire it's necessary to wash my hair twice to get the smell out. Or after cooking bacon lol.

Yes. For me the first shampoo breaks down the products I've used.....styling cream, heat protection spray, anti-frizz finishing cream or whatever, and the second gets deeper. The first shampoo doesn't lather as well as the second so that reinforces the idea to me.

No I only wash once. I don't use any product in my hair so there's nothing really to wash aout. The only exception would be if I had been swimming in a heavily clorinated pool, but everyone I know with a pool has salt chlorinated pools so my hair never smells of chlorine.

I only wash once also. I rarely use product in my hair so one wash does the job fine.

Just once, unless I've soaked my hair and scalp in coconut oil.
And dare I say, I don't usually shampoo everyday. Every other day works better for me.

No I don't need to do two shampoos ever. All I have in my hair is conditioner. I stopped using all product and should just go and throw it all out once and for all because I am never going to use it. I flat iron my hair and it usually (unless it is humid outside) and it stays straight. This way I don't have to wash my hair nearly as often either. I still wash it 3x week but without the styling stuff in it, it doesn't weigh it down and look greasy quickly. (It used to when I had mousse and this, that and the other in my hair).

I usually wash my hair every other day. When I do that, I only wash, rinse, condition, rinse. If I go a third day before I wash, I feel like may hair doesn't lather well and I shampoo twice. For me, if I get a good amount of lather and my hair "feels" clean, once is enough.

I never wash, rinse or condition more than once. No need to, unless maybe I'm at the beach and my hair feels really dry. I might then condition twice, but in normal circumstances, no.

I wash with conditioner so no lather. What do you use and how often do you "wash" your hair? I would think it would build up. I don't use conditioner every time I wash. Makes my hair feel heavy. Just wash and rinse. I wash my hair about twice a week.

I used to, back when I was much more of a rule follower. If the bottle said to do it, then by golly I did it! Now? Cleansing conditioner. I love Herbal Essences Naked in the white bottle.

Every now and then, if my hair is feels really yucky, I will. Sometimes when I have been in the ocean for instance, I feel like I need to wash twice. I use a very small amount of shampoo for the second wash.

I only wash, rinse and condition. I use argon oil on the tips when it's wet but other than that, no product at all. My hair only gets washed every other day.

I did back in the 80s and early 90s when I had a ton of hair and used lots of product. Now, I just shampoo once and condition once a week or so.

I always thought those instructions were a ploy by the shampoo companies to get people to use more product unnecessarily.

No way. I've never washed my hair twice even when I was young and had oily hair. I certainly can't do it now when so much of it is naturally gray and dyed blond. I have to baby my tresses. I almost never use product and I only wash every three days. I also try to wash on days when I can air dry my hair and if I do have to blow dry I don't use my curling iron the same day. Only one heat process per day and not even every day at that.
Having old lady hair is a trial sometimes. At least gray hair holds a curl like crazy and I have twice as much volume as I ever did, so there are some bonus points. The gray is also what prompted me to go back to my childhood blond. I have to take care of it carefully, but I currently have the best hair of my life. There's no way I would abuse it with too much shampooing.

Always, and occasionally three times if my hair feels really oily or dirty. I judge by how much lather I get with the second wash.
