We had to go out of town last week because my father-in-law passed away. We boarded our dog at the same place we always board her. This is the first time she had been there for more than a weekend though. She was there for 6 days. We picked her up Monday afternoon. She has not eaten since we picked her up. She is barely drinking. She does get finicky when we are gone but she usually starts eating better when we return.
I took her her food to the kennel so it's not a change in food. I called the kennel, they said she ate well while we were gone. Do think she is just ticked off at us for leaving her or could it be something else? I will take her to the vet in the morning if she does not eat tonight.
Should i I try to entice her with table food just to get her to eat?
Thanks, Dena

my dog comes home from being boarded and is a bit weird for about 48 hours. I think they are just on edge the entire time...

That is unusual behavior but normally when a dog isn't drinking/eating something is wrong. It is easy to pick up a bug at the boarders. I think you are taking the best approach...as you said if she doesn't eat tonight, take her to the vet in the morning.

I agree, she's probably just a bit off, but I would definitely take her in. If you are worried she's not drinking enough, maybe give her an ice cube to play with? We don't generally give our dog ice cubes but sometimes when grabbing some out of the freezer one drops on the floor and she gets so excited and plays with it and gets a little water that way (I did that once when she was sick at night and I was worried about dehydration).
I hope your furry friend is feeling better soon!

Awww....so sorry about your Father-in-Law ! A similar thing happened a few years ago with our guy----I can tell you that our vet was MOST concerned with water intake and urine output....(as you may already know....they won't be as worried about food intake---yet!)....You said she is barely drinking-----how is her urine output? Our guy had literally not touched water or food in 48 hours---of course we were very concerned---but as I said, our vet was most concerned about urine output, and as long as he was peeing, (he was), the vet wasn't too concerned, but he did run some labwork, (which was fine), and instructed us to come back in 1-2 days if the no-drinking, no-eating continued Is she coughing at all? Is she vaccinated for Bordetella? (Kennel Cough)...? Have you been paying more attention to her since ya got back? For our guy, it turned out he was jealous of the new puppy we'd brought home....well, at least that's what I THINK it was......While driving home from the vet, knowing his labwork was fine and that he was urinating, it dawned on me that maybe he needed a special outing with just ME----We left puppy at home and I took him to PetSmart---which he LOVES!---and gave him more attention and hugs....Sure enough, he drank a TON of water and started eating again----awwww!!!!! Hope your girl is okay!!!

She still wasn't eating so I took her to the vet. Although she has been vaccinated, She has kennel cough. She got a shot, antibiotics and cough medicine. Hopefully she will feel better soon.

That really sucks she got kennel cough. Hope she feels better soon. Is she eating now. if not steam her some boneless chicken and feed that to her she will love it. I keep a bag of boneless skinless thighs in the freezer because our yorkie tends to get constipated a lot and we will give him steamed chcken thighs and mineral oil for a few days and he will be back to himself. This past time my vet said to give him canned pumpkin. That really worked great.

The kennel cough vaccine is kind of like the human flu shot; your dog can still get kennel cough but it won't be as bad. If you haven't already done so, please call the boarding facility that you used and let them know that your dog has kennel cough so they can take the necessary precautions.

There are different strains of kennel cough, and most bordetella vaccines only cover the most common strains. I found that out the hard way, when my dog got kennel cough at the groomer's. It took about a month for it to go away completely, even with antibiotics. I hope your dog is back to normal soon.

Our pup gets finicky when his routine changes, too. If he doesn't eat for a day or two, we start with putting water or chicken broth (low sodium) in his dry food, too his food with a table spoon of wet food or cook him some chicken or rice since it's easy on the stomach, just in case there may be a issue. It usually works every time. I hope all is okay! ETA: Just read she had kennel cough. I'm as you found out what it is and hope she's back to herself again soon!

awww......I saw your update...was the shot a steroid, or antibiotic, or something else? (I'm curious what kind of shot they give (in addition to the oral antibiotics) for kennel cough in case my babies ever get it)...... Is she eating now? Poor thing...hope she feels better soon!!!
