My boys are looking at Ohio State University for next year. They visited a few weeks ago, and they loved it. I did not go with them on the visit, so I know nothing about it. I am looking for any and all info you can give me about the school. Did you or your kids attend, where to live, places to eat, etc.
Thanks, Janell

I went there as a grad student for 6 years and earned my MA and PhD there. The first year I worked as an Asst. Hall Director in one of the Freshman dorms.
It was a great school to be a grad student at, because my program only accepted 7-10 people per year. As an undergrad, it can be overwhelming due to the sheer number of students - around 60,000.
For their first year, they should live on campus and actively find clubs/sports to be involved in, including fraternities. The kids who really excel there and don't get lost have strong social connections. It will also take a degree of self-discipline, because a large segment of the student body believe the weekend starts on Thursday, and there is quite a bit of partying.
That said, it is a wonderful school and due to its size, it is able to offer something for almost everyone. If your boys have an interest, they will be able to pursue it there.

My DS applied there but decided on a different school. He did visit a few times a year because his best friend was an athlete there. I went to watch her play with her mom a few times and I have to say that it was my favorite college campus/town that I have ever been to. DS would occasionally mention that he would have loved it there.

Columbus is a great town. While I didn't attend OSU (Go Hoosiers!), my son will probably end up there.
Katalinas is a must! Pancake balls are the bomb!

Graeters Ice Cream and Katzingers Deli were two of my favorites!

I graduated from OSU, and agree with what others have said. I loved it and wouldn't trade the experience for any other. Definitely something for everyone, but not great if your boys are looking for a small-campus/small-school experience. Buckeye Donuts rock!

My boys are definitely not looking for a small college. They love sports and are really looking forward to getting out of Utah and being around other students with different interests. It is just going to be such a different life for my DH and me once they are gone!!!
Thanks everyone, and keep the opinions coming.
