With the surprise release of Saturday Mornings, many scrappers were hopeful that OA had gotten its act together for 2015. The lack of the full range of embellishments offered & decision not to manufacture the washi tapes previously introduced for this collection caused pause. OA products are now frequently offered on the "steals" websites, including Saturday Mornings! Treasure Map still has not been released, despite its introduction in Summer 2013; the latest projection date of Spring 2015 is approaching. Do you think the company is winding down or gearing up for a large release?

I'm pretty sure that they are the owners of the new retail scrapbook store on the storefront side of their warehouse called Paper Made. I was in there a few weeks ago and they didn't have any unreleased/new OA in the retail store either. They're having a big clearance sale this weekend in their crop room.

People have been pondering OA's demise for years and years. I have no inside info, and it is hard to guess at since they seem to have strange business practices. I don't worry much about seeing OA on the deal sites since I regularly see super new stuff on those, especially AC brands and I am pretty sure they are fine. It may just be a new method of marketing. If I had to guess I would think OA is trying to free up cash so they can get Treasure Map printed and available, but who knows? We still don't know why they didn't release all the elements to Saturday Mornings...maybe the time frame on the tape was poor, maybe they didn't feel it would sell well after all? I do know their blog is extremely well manned and their DT (including guest designers every month) is always kept current. That is a very positive sign. Pretty much every company that has gone downhill that I can think of started flaking off on their blogs for awhile first.
I, for one, would be devastated if OA were no longer available. I still haven't really gotten over the loss of Sassafras and that was ages ago. I basically buy anything and everything they put out. As much as I like AC (particularly the Crate Paper arm of AC) I am getting a bit tired of how similar a lot of their lines are becoming. I don't want everything to feel so homogenized. This is why brands like OA and Webster's Pages are so important. I would have listed Glitz in their too, but I am pretty sure Glitz is no more...

I keep hoping they'll figure out their production problems. I love everything they put out. I have spent a ridiculous amount at their warehouse sales!

I was trying to find websites selling the Saturday Morning line, but wherever I looked, no one had everything I needed. Luckily I got it on Steals.com. I was totally shocked but very pleased that I got it at a discount. Not sure how they are making money.

I think that old saying, "it takes money to make money" fits perfectly. Here's my guess: they don't have the money to print the new lines, so they aren't making any money; so, they're in this hamster wheel. But then again, who the heck knows. OA has certainly remained a mystery.

I wonder if the dock workers strike in CA might have something to do with it? I've gotten several emails from Simple Stories about unforeseen product delivery delays due to the strike, and they can't be the only ones dealing with fallout from that.

Doesn't OA print their own papers in their headquarters in Minnesota?

I'm not sure where the papers are printed but I was thinking about the lack of washi tape or other embellishments that people mentioned were missing from the recent collections. If any of the other stuff is made in China, getting it to the U.S. could be affected by the strike.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts & experiences. crazy4scraps - Given OA has stumbled along with only a few new releases per year, I found it odd their product was now promptly being sold on the "steal" sites. I had forgotten about the retail store announced with the warehouse sale; as a new factor in profitability for the owners, the retail store would explain the change. So, does Paper Made stock every OA product - old & new lines? impearia - I also hope this is a sign the company is being proactive & generating cash to pay for its next release. Also, lack of cash flow may be the reason for the truncated embellishment offerings for Saturday Mornings. The OA blog is one of my favorites because it is well-maintained & inspiring! mikklynn - Like you, I'm rooting for OA. Living ~1200 miles away & always with a full October calendar, I'm unable to attend the annual warehouse sale. Did you also check out the company's new retail store? trixiecat - Glad you were able to snag the line before it sold out! @devildog - Considering OA's odd business practices, I've speculated for years that it must be a side business/write-off for the owners. The retail store opening in Fall 2014 certainly adds more mystery. mirabelleswalker - It's my understanding OA products are all made in the USA; however, I'm uncertain whether they are still produced in-house. FurryP, ScrapsontheRocks, & pelirroja - Ahh, the flu - that explains it!

So, does Paper Made stock every OA product - old & new lines? I'm not a total fangirl so I don't know everything in every line they sell, but they did seem to have a lot of OA products in the store. I saw the papers and stuff for Saturday Mornings for sale singly at the front of the store but no collection packs. I remember seeing the Christmas stuff. I wasn't really looking for any OA stuff when I was there because I bought everything I wanted at the warehouse sale. The thing is, it's hard to say what they did or didn't have because it's scattered all over the store.
