At night, when I get out of bed to pee (multiple times, unfortunately), I get spooked by the treadmill in the corner. Not always, but every once in a while, I think it's A. An intruder, sort of hunched over or B. A golf cart. I've never played golf, so I'm not sure why my mind goes to option B.
Is there something in your house that spooks you on occasion?

We have a clothes steamer that my husband always puts his work shirt on before he goes to bed. If I wake up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom I always think it is a shadowy figure coming at me.
And when I was a kid my parents kept a mirror at the end of our hallway, that hallway scared the crap out of me in the dark.

And when I was a kid my parents kept a mirror at the end of our hallway, that hallway scared the crap out of me in the dark. We have one of the clothes steamers too. Even without a shirt on it, it appears way too human in the dark. I also have a woman's dress form for photographing clothes to sell on eBay. Both items were in a spare bedroom and my DH would move them around and they'd end up right next to each other. Add that to the moon coming into the room in the middle of the night and it looked like we had been invaded by some king of skeleton creatures from another planet. (At least that's where my mind went in the middle of the night when I passed the room to put the dogs out.) When the doxie dog took to growling and barking at them on a regular basis, the steamer got put away and the dress form got moved to a different room. I grew up in a house with the bathroom at the end of the hallway. My mother put a mirror on the outside of the door. We had to keep the bathroom door open when it wasn't in use because their beagle dog would not come down the hallway. She'd growl and bark at her reflection every.single.time she saw herself. Drove us all crazy. LOL

Not me, but I have something that scares my kids! (and they are college-aged) It's a Santa that is about 4 1/2 feet tall and I put him out every year during the holidays. They can see him when they come down the stairs and every year they tell me how he scares them. LOL

I rarely wake up in the middle of the night for anything, but it's still pitch black when I get up to get ready at 515am. When I walk down the hall towards the bathroom, I can see something move in front of me, a person. It's my own reflection in a glass cabinet. Still freaks me out. Every damn morning! I hate that cabinet, but there is no where else to put it for now.

It was my Granny's, its creepy as shit. Last year before she came over on Christmas Eve I switched out the Coke bottle for a kitchen knife. I laughed, she gave me a dirty look.

This year we had a (life size) Santa at work that spooked me too! I was usually first to arrive, turning off alarms, turning on lights. We have a tiered system, so you can secure perimeter and move around inside. It always felt like there was someone lurking in the corner.
Home treadmill is hiding behind ironing board now, can't scare me, except for amount of chores waiting.

polargreen, my Santa has a vintage look--like Old World Santa. That's so funny that Santa's can be so scary!

The cat, we found her on our doorstep around Thanksgiving. She is smokey gray and very flighty so every time I see her at night she's like a fast shadow.

I hate having to get up to go to the bathroom! To much ice tea before bed (but it keeps me from eating!). I have never worried about someone being in the house, mainly because the kids leave so much stuff all over the floor that I would hear him or her fall if it was an intruder!

At night once it's dark outside, with the kitchen lights on and the dining area lights off, I can see my own reflection moving towards me in the patio door when I go to let the dogs in or out and it freaks me out almost every time.

When I was doing laundry late last week, a black lint ball fell onto the carpet. I got busy putting the clothes away that that lint remained on the carpet. Fast forward to bedtime, it's dark, I'm barefoot and I come across this dark fuzzy spot and start freaking out thinking it's a bug. I stop mid jump realizing it isn't moving and is actually the fuzz I was too lazy to pick up. I calm the freak down but since it's late the fuzz remains. The next night, another freak out occurs. Fuzz remains, somehow gets kicked to another area on the carpet. Another minor freak out occurs that night but the fuzz eludes capture. Excuse me, I have to go take care of something now.

I can't think of anything, but this thread makes me think of that episode of Modern Family where Jay buys that human-size dog statue that is dressed like a butler, and Gloria freaks out whenever she sees it waiting by the door.

Yes, sigh. DS has a five foot tall PVC rack built to hold his lacrosse gear- helmet, shoulder pads, gloves, shoes. It's in his french doorway and therefore backlit against the orange curtains. Every damned time I walk by his door, I get a start that someone is in his room, looming.
Stupid thing. Every time.

I'm sorry, but I'm laughing over here. I have the issue with the kitchen window over the sink. I can see my reflection but it always takes me a few seconds to realize it's me and not some crazy person.

I used to live in Roswell, NM and was a guide at the UFO museum. I opened in the AM and had to come into the dark building and turn on lights. We had a wooden carved UFO guy in a little room all by himself and I had to enter that room to turn on his light. It wasn't reachable by standing outside the room and I could never look at his spooky self when I went in. I had to fumble along the wall with my head turned away and my heart in my throat every morning.

We have his exact Santa... white boots and all. My MIL got him when she worked in a restaurant. He was used as display. He creeps us all out too!

DS has one of those cardboard standup things in his corner and anytime I go in his room I scream bloody murder. One of these days, I will punch Lara Croft right in her well-toned abs.

Mostly a sound. I stay up late anyway by myself. Even the dogs most of the time go to bed, with DH. But a little after midnight the ice maker in the fridge kicks in. I know it's gonna happen but I still jump every so often when, I forget! It's really loud when the house is quiet!

that is one reason our tread mill is not in our bedroom. I hate dark rooms. I hate walking into them and I hate turning on the lights so I have night lights every where. One of our walls has a ledge about 7 feet from the floor and we have clear led Christmas lights up there. Went he house was built the owner had a outlet put up there and a light switch put in the wall to turn it on and off. We turn them on at night it is a nice soft light. we leave them on all night.
I normally don't get freaked out nightly, but one time when my husband was out of town my daughter had gone shopping and put a grocery bag with stuff in it on the counter in the kitchen and left the stove fan light on went to bed. I was in bed with my door open. I got up to pee and say a shadow on the hall wall that looked like somebodies head. It freaked me out. I got up and went to investigate it was the grocery bags shadow from the kitchen shining on the hall wall. I turned on every light in the house and opened the craft room door and turned on the light and moved the grocery bag and went back to bed. the next morning my daughter got up and saw all the lights on and came into my room and said "mom what the hell?" I told her about the shadow. she still laughs about that to this day.

Not in my house now, but the house where I grew up, my dad hung up this demonlike fish skeleton on a string from the covered patio. My sister and I hated being in the backyard for years because of that thing. Every time we went back there, the thing would turn and face you, with absolutely no wind at all.. We begged my dad to throw it away, but he wouldn't, when we finally told my mom, she was like "I hate that thing too" and she finally threw it away, but after about five years.

Right above our bed is an S-hook attached to the ceiling. The previous home owner had some kind of canopy hanging down. I can't tell you how many times I've awakened, seen that hook and thought it was a spider descending on me! My DH thinks it's funny so he hasn't taken it down. One night when I sink my fingernails into his arm, he'll realize he needs to get rid of it.

The door to our fruit cellar. I refuse to go inside and whenever I go downstairs, I refuse to even look that way.

I think you are reading my mind! I ordered a large canvas of my son's senior picture (great groupon sale!) My husband put it right outside our bathroom door so it looks like he is watching me on the can!. I don't ever shut the bathroom door because it is hidden at the back of my bedroom. It is really creepy and even my son thought it was a little much.
When I was five, I saw an episode of Get Smart where he was being lowered into a vat of boiling oil. I would not go downstairs in my house for years after seeing that.

If the inside and outside temps are drastically different we get a weird condensation circle on the inside of one specific window. It looks like a face looking in.

The ceiling fan in our office turns on by itself.
At first I thought the garage door or the TV might be on the same frequency as the fan's remote, but no, I find it on even when nothing has been switched on in the house. Sometimes it's spinning on the highest speed and sometimes it's rotating slowly. Happens at various times of the day and night. DH will frequently find it going when he gets up for work in the morning. We have no close neighbors either, so it couldn't be their TV remotes or garage door openers.
It just happened tonight. As I was checking to make sure the front door was locked before heading to bed, the fan started up while I was standing there.
Definitely creepy.
