Someone posted looking for ideas of fun things to do in NYC, and I remembered that I had sent my dd a gift certificate to The Escape Room in NYC for her birthday. She can take 5 of her friends, but they still haven't booked it yet. I can't wait to hear all about it. Has anyone else done this? There is also one in Chicago and one in Nashville. They are apparently very popular in Japan. static.escapetheroomnyc.com/index.html

We did one with a group of friends awhile ago and it was really fun. Super hard though! The hour flew by and we only got half of the clues. If it had been a real emergency, we all would have died

One just opened up not far from where I live in Michigan. I'm actually trying to get a group together to go. They sell 10 tickets per session so I'm trying to find 10 people who are interested so that we can buy the entire session.
When a new room opens they have what they call "soft sales" where tickets are 10.00 each, after the soft sale ends, tickets go up to 28.00 each. I'm hoping to get in at the 10.00 price. Will let you know!

I went to one in Chicago about 2 weeks ago. Had a great time. There was a zombie that was on a chain and was let out farther every 5 minutes. If you were touched by the Zombie, you lost. Or if you hadn't solved the puzzle within an hour you lost. We solved it in 43 minutes.I really shouldn't say WE as I really had very little to do with it But I had put together a great team, so I will take credit for that. Have her take paper and pencil and take notes as she finds clues. Nothing is too insignificant!

Sounds like loads of fun, although I'd have to hope my team mates were sharp because I'd probably dither around and not come up with anything.

Dh and SIL did it as part of a pre-wedding guys day out when we were in Canada. They failed miserably but enjoyed it and want to do it again.

I think it sounds like loads of fun. I just wish she could take pictures inside, but they won't allow it. I wonder if they even allow you to bring in your phone? The reviews are great. Actually, we are considering a family road trip to Nashville this summer, and when we looked at the top activities on TripAdvisor, this event was rated number one by a mile.

I've never heard of this before. Now I really want to do it! This is so me! I'm going to see if there are any in California at all. How fun!
ETA, I just found one in Anaheim! That's only about a half hour from me. Thank you so much for posting this. Now I know what I want to do for my birthday. I just need to drum up others who want to go with me.

There was one on big bang theory this weekend. It was funny because the solved it in like 5 minutes. I just heard about one in New Haven that I was going to surprise DH and DS with, but since they both watch BBT, it won't be a totally novel experience.

I had never heard of this until Big Bang Theory last week. Not sure if it would be fun or not.

This is the company we went through to find the one in Chicago.
We did the 2nd one ( Still Hungry ), since one of our guys had done the 1st one already. The are completely different with different puzzles I am told.

There's one in West Hartford. It's on my list of things to try.

I haven't done it but my kids, all young adults, have already gone three times. They love it! They beat two of the rooms but this weekend only made it 75% through the hardest room before time ran out. Boy were they bummed and are determined to try it again and beat it. The one they go to in Denver has 6 different rooms and have been told they will mix them up every six months. They are very popular and I have heard that two more of these escape rooms have opened in the area.

Looks like there is one in Boston that we may have to check out. It looked like a blast on The Big Bang Theory...even though it only took them 6 minutes to escape.

There are on line escape games you can play that will help to give you an idea of what the puzzles are like. I think it's escape games 24. My good friend plays on line and is part of the group I'm going with next week, I'm thinking we are going to put her in charge!

Yes, I've done it twice in Toronto. It's a lot of fun if you have a group that is competitive and bright!
I'd suggest reading the reviews to make sure they pick a room that is well-run and that is the right level (eg. Beginner to expert).
