That's my assignment. "Main Dish," meatless, and it's going to be sitting at room temperature from about 7 am until 10 am when I can get it into a fridge or an oven. Other people are assigned salads and sandwiches. This one is very specifically "main dish." And it would help if it's kid friendly.
OTOH, would mac and cheese be safe for that amount of time if I wrap it in foil and let it chill overnight? I really don't want to have to deal with a cooler and ice if i don't absolutely have to. I'm hoping you Peas can just come up with room temp ideas.
Whatchya got?

Do you have a Trader Joes near you? They sell a harvest grain "salad" that is really just different sizes of couscous in a bag that you cook and add any kind of veggies you want. I like to add beets, feta cheese and parsley. It can be served warm, room temp or cold.

I was going to suggest Mac and cheese. Wrap it in a thick towel with an ice pack. Or can you leave it in the car to stay cold? I've done that.

Well since "main dish" in this country usually implies a heavy carb I would do pasta with pesto tossed with sun dried tomatoes and feta cheese. But personally I would prefer a salad with protein as a main dish.

Can you either bring or have cheese pizza delivered? If it is to be kid-friendly, they will love you forever if you bring cheese pizza! Other thoughts that are kid friendly is spaghetti with marinara sauce, Mac n cheese (which you already mentioned), veggie lasagna, cheese enchiladas, cheese tamales (TJs has wonderful ones), meatless chili.

I guess I would do meatless spaghetti or ziti or lasagna. It's pretty annoying to be assigned a meatless main dish if you don't normally make meatless main dishes. To me, macaroni and cheese and pasta salad are side dishes, not main dishes.

I make a meatless "sheppard's pie" with veggies and mashed potatoes. It generally goes over pretty well, but if you are with a group that prefers meated dishes, it will confuse them at first.

Some sort of pasta casserole. Mac and cheese, lasagna, ziti etc. Warm comfort food.

What if you froze the dish (lasagne, pasta, etc.) beforehand? It could be thawing during those first hours and then put in the oven.
