Yesterday DH receives an email from Verizon. The email had his email addy + his ex-wife's email. The content was addressed to both of them (the ex got remarried a year ago, but kept my DH's name--no reason why--no young children, no career reason...), and it stated that they used 75% of their data and had some other info. It had an account number. It definitely had the Verizon logo on the email. DH doesn't even use a cellphone and we don't have Verizon wireless!!! He *did* used to have it about 15 years ago with the ex, however, and she supposedly dropped his name off of it when he got his own wireless plan.
So, I called Verizon and they said that their account #s are 10 digits long. This one was 8. She forwarded me to their collections dept (even though the email seemed to just be telling them where they are with their data plan). They said DH isn't in their system. Good, I'm relieved. Then they said that the email sounds suspicious, so they forwarded me to their professional collection agency to double-check. He's not in their system either, but they told me to have DH do a credit check to make sure his SS and info isn't being used.
The weird part is that the ex's email addy is relatively new!! She quit her job and was beginning to work at home and started this new addy and gave it to me in case we wanted to reach her (she talks to me). So, if this IS a collection for something she used DH's info on, it's pretty new.
Long story there, but, which place is the best to go to online to check his credit score?? I really don't want to pay. I used to use Experian and I see that it's not $4.95 to start and then $19.99/mo. WTH?? I wish that there would be a FREE credit score site and a free FICO score site. Any advice? Kinda worried that both of our exes are using out info. Ugh!
