I've lived here most of my life (except for ten years when I was in college in Utah then we lived in California for a while.) I've done most of the well-known stuff over and over. My DD2 is home (from grad school in Waco) and I want to do something. I'm not against making a short road trip but San Antonio and Houston are out as I've been there lot of times so they don't excite me. Don't want to go to Austin as I've been there for a football game last Fall. We've been SixFlags-ed to death. We went to Glen Rose last summer. DD2 would really rather stick around here so she can see her friends as well.
Any ideas? Things to do during the day so we can just come home afterward are best. I'm tired of shopping and eating out so I don't want those to be the focus.

Have you been to the Perot or the GB Library? (Although I think the Perot will be ridiculously busy.) The Arts District has really grown in recent years.
I've been here for 16 years and have never done the JFK museum, so that's on my list.
What about checking Groupon for new ideas? I've seen ghost tours, winery tours, not quite real skydiving. And about a zillion spa days.
I second the arboretum or the FW botanical guardians.
Have you ever been to the Pocket Sandwich Theater? So much fun when they do melodramas and you get to throw popcorn.
Shopping in one of the cute little town squares?
Shopping at the outlets in San Marcos? I was there a couple of weeks ago and they're huge! You could also visit Gruene or other cute Hillcountry towns.
There's a nature preserve in the south Dallas area whose name is escaping me that has nice hiking trails. There are also a couple of places in town that rent kayaks.
Beaver's Bend, OK is about 3 hours away and has fishing, hiking, kayaking. My kids love it there, so we try to go about once a year.
Hope you come up with something fun!

The Bishop Arts district is on my list. Otherwise, go to DFW and get on a plane.

We enjoyed the art museum and the Fort Worth zoo. (not exactly Dallas, I know, but pretty close). And pizza at the Mellow Mushroom near TCU.

We are headed to the U.S. Mint in Fort Worth tomorrow. I also want to visit a planetarium this week if we get a chance.
