OMG I am dying with the bunion on my foot. It is to the point of tingling and numbness and the swelling will not go away. I am sending for some bunion sling type thing to try before I go to a Dr. I do not want surgery. I am such a baby with that kind of pain.

I had surgery in August. Good luck with the sling. The surgery itself was not bad. The recovery sucks!!

I have had bunions for years! It really helps with the shoe budget. I have one pair of comfortable boots, one pair of running shoes, and a few very comfortable flip flops. So maybe 5 pairs of shoes total. I never wear flats and heels, and hardly ever go somewhere I have to dress up because my feet hurt so much when I wear most shoes.
Let us know how the sling works! I understand the bunion pain.

@tishy Well I for a few months I guess. The pain was not too bad; it was the awkwardness of trying to shower and not being able to walk in regular shoes. I am still slightly swollen but my doc says that is normal. The bump and pain are gone and I wore heels for the first time last weekend. I need the right foot done too but he says I won't be able to drive for 8 weeks so I don't know how I will be able to do that.

I'm sorry you are in pain. I hope the sling gives you some relief.
Come back and tell us if the sling helps. I'm not getting surgery on mine because of the no driving for 8 weeks (my right foot is affected) and I just can't not drive for that long. It's not an option.

Wearing my boot now! Had a bunionectomy two weeks ago. Unfortunately, it's my right foot.
At least go get a cortisone shot. I put mine off to the point my big toe wouldn't bend. Doc said I was in the sweet spot and needed to get it done while I had some cartilage left.

My mom had surgery on both feet. 2 different doctors at 2 different times. Her left foot was done first by a doctor I didn't like. I went to an appointment with her before her surgery and told her to change doctors but she said she liked him and she was comfortable. The surgery went fine but the recovery was very bad and long and she had problems with the foot after for years. Her right foot was done 5 years after her left foot by another doctor. Which this doctor was much better the surgery was much better. Recovery was much better. She had no issues with the foot after.

I can not go without driving for 8 weeks! Thanks for the info also.

Yeah, that whole 8 week thing would not work for me either. I have a dd in school, I work full time and I do errands for my mom and dad. I will report back when I get the sling thing and let you all know how it works out.

Mine was really bad right when I was getting a divorce 11 years ago. Right foot - 8 weeks no driving. My kids were little and active, no family in town, no way could I do it. So I babied it for all this time - only good shoes. If I try on a pair of shoes in the store and they don't feel wonderful I don't buy them - even if the are expensive great shoes. No breaking in shoes they have to wow me from the get go. I wear Danskos to work and good running shoes to walk in. Also have good sandals for the summer. My co-worker just got her first surgery (she needs both) she is 60 and the recovery time was not quick. After 8 weeks she still could not drive. But her advise to me was to get it down while you are younger because the older you get the longer it takes to heal. My kids are getting older now - almost out of the house - I could technically do it if I had to.

Yeah, this is just not happening.
