Yes, and I know it isn't "trendy" because it's hard to find anymore.

I use it all the time! Sometimes for background paper and other times to mat photos, titles.

When did it go "out" of style? I'm so out of the loop. LOL I'm going to pretend I didn't just read this and scrap and card make with solid Color card stock. (Says the person with a huge stockpile of colored card stock. )

Ha I was just thinking about this as I sorted out some coloured card stock and patterned paper to donate. I mostly use white or at least light coloured backgrounds now. Still use some colours as accents or for titles but not nearly as much as a few years ago. I use a lot more patterned paper too.

Yes I do. Not nearly as often as a background as I once did but I still love my colored cardstock. I suppose this places me in the "out of style" group.

Wha? Colored cardstock is "out"? Blasphemy, I tell ya!
My DDs wore multicolored Gymboree outfits in their early years and that's where my love of color profusion developed. In my house, everything is vanilla and chocolate (white walls, brown leather furniture) but my scrapbooks are where I go wild with color. The only time I've ever scrapped in neutrals is a sandcastles/beach page from back in the day (and even then I added three different shades of turquoise and teal to offset that beige-y oatmeal color).
My stash is several feet tall and loaded with color: raspberry pink, strawberry parfait, lime green, blue raspberry, lemonade yellow, cherry blossom pink, periwinkle, and swimming pool turquoise. I love bright colors! I don't own a single sheet of kraft cardstock and I'm OK with that!

I never did get on board with the kraft background thing... it just looks too dull, to me! (plus, it doesnt' really showcase desert landscaping photos very well). I use whatever paper I think suits the photos and story-- the only colors of cardstock that I don't really use any more are the very, very dark colors-- otherwise, I still use colored cardstock as a background, for punching elements / borders, and for use in my Silhouette to cut shapes or titles.
eta: and for me, white is too 'stark-looking' for most photos, maybe because the colors and light in desert SW photos are sooo bright already. If I'm going to use a light-colored background, it's usually a light cream or vanilla sort of color instead of white.

I generally always use coloured card stock as a background. I love a bit of colour and when I try and do the white background or white space thing it never looks right on my layouts, but I love how everyone else's look.....I just can't master it.

I use patterned paper the most for backgrounds, with colored cardstock coming in second as a background. I use a lot of colored cardstock for matting photos, too.

I adhere my layout to a piece of cardstock to make it more sturdy. Every now and then I use a scrap or two on the page itself. But most of the time it's patterned paper all the way.

This is me too. I use cardstock as my page base on every layout - always have, probably always will. I haven't bought mags for years and don't look online either, so I don't know (or care) what's in fashion, I just toddle along doing my own thing. As long as I like my layouts, that's all that matters to me. Not saying there's anything wrong with following trends, it's just not something I do.

Another reason I use cardstock as a base is the cost. I can find CS 6/$1.00, but the PP I like is close to .99 each piece. I know there are sales at the big box stores, but I like the brands of PP they do not carry.

you know it's sort of funny but when I was starting out as a scrapbooker - the people who used exclusively white or black cardstock backgrounds were the Creative Memories scrapbookers who were out-of-fashion at the time. Now it's fashionable to only use white/black/kraft/neutral backgrounds and the coloured/patterned backgrounds are out-of-fashion. It all goes in a circle, doesn't it?
I love coloured backgrounds - I do use black but struggle with white because it often reminds me of the old-style CM pages

While I use a fair amount of kraft (and gray, for that matter) I still use plenty of colored cs. And I use it for everything: background, matting, die-cutting, etc.
I have noticed there's a lot less of it in 12x12 in the stores these days.

huh-- one of our local stores is the 'flagship' Bazzill store, and they discontinued carrying the 8.5x11 cardstock altogether; I'm not sure they even make it anymore--??

Didn't My Mind's Eye just come out with a new cardstock line? A Cherry on Top has 917 cardstock offerings. I don't think it's out of style.
Patterned paper manufacturer's don't use it in their samples, but that doesn't mean it has gone out of style.
I don't use colored cardstock as a background, but do use it as an edge around my layout, for cutting out titles, shapes, etc.

This is so funny you start this thread because I have been thinking the same thing! I have a huge drawer of colored cardstock and it's just taking up space in my very small studio. I never ever need it or use it. Patterned paper is so thick now I just use a mostly solid pattern in place of every cardstock I used to use. I will probably sell mine.
