Looking into travel insurance for DH & I. Taking a cruise through Princess Cruiseline.
Should I go through the cruiseline, or go with an outside party?

Will the insurance on the Princess Cruise line make you pay for everything and then reimburse you? That is the way that most independent travel insurance is work. You pay for it and then send in paperwork to be reimbursed. Look at reviews. There are a lot of differences among travel insurance companies. Some of them reimbursed quickly and easily. Others have a reputation for being very difficult.

What "type " of insurance do you want--medical, catastrophic, anything else? We use Medjet. We have Heath ins that is covered out of the country but Medjet for a serious condition to transport us back to the US. We don't insure the airline, cruise tix, itself.

we used travelex insurance, I wouldn't recommend them. our flight was cancelled, we were sent to another airport (drove ourselves) an hour away only to have that one cancelled after we went thru security. had to go home and start again the next day, missed a day at our resort. we weren't able to get anything back from them, tho our travel agent led us to believe that they would reimburse us for the missed day at the resort. we don't travel much and this was the first time we bought insurance, not impressed.

We use Travelguard but booked our cruise through Costco. So far very smooth process being reimbursed for the cancelled trip.

Princess is either using Travelguard or possibly Allianz. Call those two and ask for a quote (be sure to get the same coverage in both quotes -- whether you want cancel for any reason clause, just cancellation or medical, too) before you buy from Princess. Often times it's the same insurance and same carrier, but the cruiselines will add their markup.
