I was picking up my DD from a meeting and I sat in the back waiting with her 2 year old and 4 year old. A man in the front made the comment, " That's so F.....ing stupid!" The 4 year old gasped and loudly said, " That's a bad word. We don't say STUPID!" The room laughed but the man came and apologized to me and the little girls at the end of the meeting. I was proud of my daughter for teaching her little girls not to call someone stupid.

We were having dinner with my mom and her husband and we were talking about how my husband had invited a client from Denmark and his family (who were visiting the US) to have dinner with us the next night. My daughter then says: "How do you know they aren't douchebags?" My step-father just about choked. My daughter literally had no idea where the term came from; she had heard others use the term to refer to people who are jerks. We had a similar conversation about calling people douchebags and not knowing what it meant. I admit, I rarely get flustered and have been talking pretty openly and frankly with my boys since they were pretty young....but having to try to explain to my 16 year old boy what a douche was just about sent us both screaming from the room. He had NO clue. I had to explain to my 11 and 13 year old grandsons what a douchebag was. The 11 year old said, "do women really DO that Grandma? Why?" Haha! My DD was in the other room laughing her ass off!

I've had zero issues with sex and all the weird directions those conversations went, but the douche conversation just about did me in.

My contribution is from my then-boyfriend's DD who was about 4 at the time. I bought her an iced lolly and when she took the wrapper off, it fell off its stick and onto the floor. She said cheerfully "oh f***" and a shop full of people all turned round to glare at ME. Ignoring them all listening in disapprovingly, I asked her where she had heard that, and she answered "mammy says it". That was me off the hook - phew!

he wasn't a teen, but when ds was about 8 or 9, we went to a minor league baseball game and took my friends daughter who was same age...about half-way thru the game, my friends dd whispered to me that ds "said the f word" I almost died right there. I didn't know he knew the f word.. I asked her what did he say and she said "he said fart".....was I relieved..lol.. This was the "f" word in our house growing up. It was considered a very bad word, lol! I still can't say it but occasionally let the other F word fly.
