I posted on that thread that DH had had a friend in his teens that he did everything with.
This friend moved from Ontario to British Columbia before DH and I met, so I've never met him. But every few months, he would call and DH would be on the phone for hours with him.
Last time we heard from him, he was moving. It has been quite a few years since we heard from him.
DH's 50th birthday is on the horizon (2 years away) and with that in mind, I set out to find this friend.
He is on Facebook. I sent a message (but not being friends, it was probably sucked into his "other" folder). His profile did not have a "friend request" button on it. And it appeared that he had not posted in quite a while.
SO, I proceeded to go through the people who had commented on his most recent photo posted. Sent them all the message that I was not wanting his personal info, but to please tell him to check that "other" folder and that I was looking for him.
I Googled him. I did the phone number look up. NOTHING - other than his FB profile, this guy is not around.
OMG! He messaged me back today!! He moved back to Ontario last year! I told him DH would love to hear from him and gave him our current number.
I've not told DH. I'm sitting her waiting for a phone call - hopefully tonight, but I wanted it to be a surprise.
Yay!
*****UPDATE*****
He just sent me a Facebook message about 30 minutes ago, asking when was good to call (and to wish me happy birthday LOL) - I told him DH had just walked in the door, we weren't going out for a while yet...
They have been on the phone for half an hour! Yay!
DH came into the office to say "he moved back to XXX" and I'm like "ya, I already knew that - way ahead of you!" LOL
Seriously sounds like they just talked last week. I'm SO glad I followed up like I did!

Thanks ladies - me as well!
I googled - he only lives less than 2 hours from us by car - so the possibility we can get together with him some day is very real.
I'm excited for DH! I still haven't told him we've connected. I'll just let the phone call happen when it happens!

That is awesome!!
That thread prompted me to try again to find an old friend from my teenage days. I had tried to find her a few times over the years but didn't have any luck. This time, I started looking for her mother and found her obit. With the help of an awesome pea that had an account on the website that had her mother's obituary, other searches were able to be done, we had a name that I found on FB. I sent a friend request although it didn't look like she was very active on FB. I thought I would give it a couple of weeks and see what happened. Through her FB, I was also able to see her son and his wife so I thought I would try them if I didn't hear from her. Well, this morning, she accepted my friend request and we have already had a couple of messages back and forth. I believe it has been over 36 years since I have seen her. We were practically inseparable as teens. I am so excited to be back in touch!
