I do a modified version of that and I love it. Most of my multiple thousands of photos are not printed, they are stored (and backed up several ways) on hard drives, CDs, DVDs, etc. What I did was bought Digital Scraproom software and I've been working on importing the photos I want to scrap most into the software which helps me quickly organize, categorize, rate and tag those photos first. The software allows me to do the same thing with my digital scrapbooking elements, papers, etc. (I don't do a lot with digi, but I do my Christmas cards that way.) I know some people use Lightroom for the same purpose, but I was really impressed with the ease of the Scraproom software and I like easy! It also has an integrated photo editor with a lot of nice features.
Once the photos are in there, I can see at a glance which ones I've printed and which ones have been scrapped. I can quickly search and filter by rating and/or tags if I'm looking for photos of certain themes, people, places, dates, etc. so only the best photos come up in the search. It will be really nice once I get more of my photos imported. I haven't had a whole lot of time to work on it because my studio has been packed up/a work in progress for several years, but I hope to have more opportunities to get more of my pictures in there and actually get more of my pictures scrapped in the near future and this should help me do it.

I love the photo organization. That part works wonderfully for me. The part that doesn't is all the different albums. This summer when I have more time, I will be rearranging my albums back to chronological order.

Yes, the photo organizing in albums works for me. I un-did the albums and have them chronologically (but I don't scrap in order) it just makes it easier to find things.

My mind doesn't work that way. I need to store my photos Chronologically.

I've done a "lazy girl" version of LOM. I do have my printed photos stored chronologically in 3-up albums, and I take those with me to crops. When I've scrapped all I want of a certain event and there are photos remaining, I put them either into the category "drawers" (I use those photo shoeboxes from Michael's) or cold storage. The terribly lazy part is that I haven't filed layouts into albums in a loooooong time. But when I do, I do follow the general categories - Story of Us, People We Love, Things We Do, and Places We Go. Regret it? Never. Admittedly, it took me a while to really grasp the concept, but now that I have, I love it.
Edited to add: Crazy4Scraps, I love the sound of that Scraproom software. I'll have to check into it!

I'm in desperate need of a photo organization system, but am afraid to commit to her way of organizing photos. Anyone do it and regret it? Any ideas for photo organization? I did it and did regret doing the system. I think my problem was over thinking. So many times I'd think that camping picture should go in the Places We Go Album. It was also a family reunion, so it should go in the People We Love album. Wait! There's also my kids in that picture so it should go in Our Family Album! So, I'm scrapping the same photo 3 times! Yes, there is a different story to each photo told from a different perspective, but I want to scrap different photos. So I took everything apart and filed them chronologically. Now I have a family album using divided sheet protectors. It's mostly photos with little embellishing, and a few journaling cards. It's a summary of the year. It's not project life where you do a photo a day. I'm also going to organize my heritage photos the same way. Except it will be organized by families. As inspiration strikes, I'll do a regular layout for that special photo and include it in the same album. I still like to have separate albums for holidays. Some themed albums I have are Christmas, Halloween, Birthdays, and Easter. When I want to do something more crafty, I do regular layouts in the holiday albums. So, yes there is still an overlap of scrapping some of the same photos, but I feel like I think less about where to put the pictures. I DO like the feeling of being caught up. So I like the family album to be as current as possible and it's okay for the themed albums to be hopelessly behind.

The part I didn't like about having all the different albums was not 'seeing' my kids grow from year to year. Too choppy for me so back to chronological I go!
