The "c" key is stuck somehow, and I have to press it like 3 or 4 times for it to work. Plus my laptop is heavy. And the speakers suck. Do you have any opinions on laptap vs. tablet? The thing I don't like about tablets is no dvd drive.

That sounds annoying so if you have the money I'd say it's a good excuse to buy a new laptop. I prefer a laptop but I think I'll be in the minority.

I had a working HP laptop and there was nothing wrong with it. It wasn't heavy, it was fast, speakers were good, worked fine. I bought a Mac. I'd say you need it!

Yes--those are definitely enough excuses to buy a new laptop!! Ha. I'd rather have a decent laptop and a great smartphone vs. a tablet, but that's just me.

Great excuse, I mean reason. I'm looking into getting one myself. My PC is over 8 years old and has XP.

Today is Wednesday. That is a good reason to buy new technology! I would look at the Microsoft Surface 3. It is a tablet but with many capabilities of a laptop. You can also buy an external dvd drive so you have it when you need it.

Sounds like a perfect reason to me!! That being said, I hate getting a new computer, it is such a pain setting it up. Enjoy your new toy.

Those are definitely good reasons to look to get a replacement for your laptop. But then again, I'm a technology junkie, and rarely need an excuse to upgrade. As to the laptop/tablet question, it really depends what you're going to use it for. Personally, I can't stand using tablets for long unless they have a regular (Bluetooth) keyboard. For that reason alone, I would get a laptop. However, many newer laptops (especially those that are thin, lightweight, etc.) don't have dvd/cd drives anymore. They can't and maintain their low weight and profiles. I got a MacBook Pro recently and bought an external drive. They don't cost much, but when you need it, it's definitely nice to have.

The thing I don't like about tablets is no dvd drive. Personally, I have to have both. I don't like to do much typing using my tablet. I do have a blue tooth keyboard which helps, but not for any serious typing. Not having a DVD drive doesn't bother me, though I do have one on my new laptop (April). I've got probably 90% of my movies available to me via streaming of one sort or another. I watch most of our movies using a streaming app or device at this point. And a stuck "c" is a very good reason to buy a new laptop

It might be easier with a full size tablet.

Go for it. I need to buy a new lap top. Mine is 6 years old ran decently on vista, but now the backlight has burnt out. $300+ to replace and repair it. I have been limping along with my iPad for 1 1/2 weeks now, but really need to get a new one. Really don't want to spend the $$$, but need it for certain things. Plus not looking forward to learning Windows 8.

However, many newer laptops (especially those that are thin, lightweight, etc.) don't have dvd/cd drives anymore. They can't and maintain their low weight and profiles. The brands that are keeping the dvd drives are starting to charge more for having them, they're not standard. In DH's contract business for IT, they don't use CDs any longer. They do back ups for customers to thumbdrives.

My DH gave me a mini iPad for Christmas last year. I really thought I would hate it because it didn't have what I thought I needed with a laptop. Nope - love it, love the size. I have a laptop for work but for my own home computing we have moved to tablets. So much more convenient!

You really need a new laptop. No question. I like my mini iPad, but still use the laptop for work and a lot of other things.

I adore my Mini for a lot of things, but typing on it isn't one of them.
