Hobby Lobby is opening in my area next Monday. Do they have anything special that I need to check out? I made my non-scrapping neighbor "crack up laughing" last week when I said I was going to Hobby Lobby and since I haven't been in ages, I was going to take a lunch and wear some Depends so I could stay all day.

I don't think they have anything spectacular that you can't get anywhere else. They do have a much larger selection than my local Joann's. They also have a ton of home decor items.
I don't make it in there much and frankly, try not to shop there much as I don't care for their politics.
If you are going, don't forget to go to their website and grab a coupon. If you have a smartphone you can just pull up the website and they'll scan it from there.

I got some nice Doodlebug stuff from there a year or so ago. The one that's an hour away has different things from our local Michaels and JoAnne's but nothing spectacular. I do wish we had one closer so I could go more often.

I agree with ahiller in that they don't have anything that you can't find somewhere else. My closest HL is 1 hour away. IMO they have way too many cheap home decor items. The one thing I do like is that they have a big selection of fabrics and upholstery fabrics.

Spectacular? Maybe not, but I have found they have a much better selection than my local Michael's or Joann's. Wish mine was closer. Love HL!

Since all the scrapbook stores have gone out of business in my area, I am pretty much limited to big box stores. Of all of them, Hobby Lobby is my fave and has the best selection. Like many others have mentioned, I rarely pay full price because of their 40% off coupons.

I love HL.. some stores are smaller and not much on the home decor but if your store is a biggie and you like home decor stuff you will be in 7th heaven. They do have 40% off coupons (you can download to your phone).. so I buy on sale or use a coupon... I don't think there is much there that doesn't go on sale.. their sales are in about a six week roll... Scrapping stuff... there is tons, but for brand new stuff, not so much... they do have their 'own' line of stuff as well.

I found you go to hobby lobby once they hardly have anything new sometimes good things in clearance but not a go to store.

That is pretty much what I was going to say - they don't have a lot of different products than M's or J's but they have a larger selection.

I go to Hobby Lobby to find fun alterable stuff. I really love their clocks and mirrors for home decor too. I don't necessarily go there for scrap stuff, but home decor stuff and their Christmas decorations are beautiful once they start coming out I've also purchased some floral arrangement things for our church decorations when they were on sale. Just a nice general crafting store I guess. Our Michaels is a small store and kinda sucks. JoAnns was worse until they moved to their new location and increased their square footage, but they don't have much different stuff.

Scrapping-wise, I've found some nice stuff at Hobby Lobby in comparison to other places, especially since all the J's in my city have tiny scrapbooking sections (much more material and yarn where I am) and the M's have hardly anything with a designer name on it anymore (everything is Recollections). For example, I've found a lot of American Crafts branded embellishments at HL -- Crate Paper and Dear Lizzy and Studio Calico, stuff you'd never see at M's or J's. One HL near me had October Afternoon's Travel Girl stuff when it first came out, even. Yeah, it's tame compared to online or a serious LSS, but I wouldn't count it out. When they put their Paper Studio stuff on sale, with the storage and Stampabilities inks for $1.50 and what the poster above me called alterables, that sort of thing, I tend to pick up a lot for very little. They also have a better general artist section than M's or J's if you're looking for brushes and special artist paper. OTOH, the stamp section tends to be a lot weaker than M's. My 2 cents!

We no longer have an LSS where I live and HL is the only big box 'craft' store - all others are an hour or so away. I shop what's on sale for a particular week and use the 40% off coupon always.

I was just in Hobby Lobby on Monday and fall and Christmas is already out. The scrap selection is much better than at my Michaels.

I was kind of disappointed when the first one opened near me earlier this year. I've been to other HL's that had a ton of great brand name stuff, this new one? Not so much. Lots of Paper Studio or whatever their house brand is. There must be 7-8 aisles of paper crafting and none of it is anything I want.
