I love hanging clothes on the line and am lucky enough to have a 4 line pole. I hang a lot out from about May to September. I love the scent of clothes dried on the Lin. I am the only person in my neighborhood who hangs clothes outside.

I do this as a cost cutting measure.I do have both a washer and dryer. It's pretty interesting to see how the electric bill has changed since doing this. As a kid we hung every thing out. Monday was laundry day using an old square tub maytag ringer machine. Dryers had not been invented yet!! Tuesday was ironing day. I was 10 before my Mom got an automatic washing machine. She thought she had died and gone to laundry heaven!!

I have never experienced hanging clothes out to dry. I think here clothes would get moldy (SE Florida) before they could dry. Also, the sun is very strong and I would be afraid clothes would fade.
Growing up there was no hanging clothes outside either and I grew up in the late 50's-60's. Never really paid attention, but I am pretty sure we always had a dryer.

Lol Lesley. I have a pal who is a bit precious about how she hangs hers out, and she would fall in to the 'lovely wash' category.
Recent dialogue with DS16
A good drying day. Me: Please can you hang out the washing (On coming home and finding it still in the machine) DS: I couldn't find it.
A few days later... Me: Please take the washing out (On coming home and finding wet washing sitting in the basket by washing machine) DS: I did take it out.
A few days later...another good drying day Me: Please take the wet washing out of the machine when the cycle finishes, put it in the basket, take the basket outside with the pegs and hang the washing on the line.
This is what I came home to.
Note the sleeve of the blue T-shirt still crumpled in on itself, and the black shirt to the left hung up by the scruff of its neck, but hey...he did it!
I could have written this post! I love the entertainment value of getting DH to hang washing out too. The air of bafflement as he examines each garment and then pegs it in the most unlikely, clothes deforming way is hysterical. A passer by could be forgiven for thinking that Quasimodo lives here. I must remember to take a photo next time.

I always hang outside in summer, mostly inside in winter. I try not to use the dryer too much because our electricity bill is so expensive. So in winter I hang my clothes over the ducted heating vents but I HATE having the drying clothes in the lounge room and bathroom. It makes the house look so untidy.

I hang mine outside for about 80% of the year. It is very warm and dry here so clothes dry very quickly and if you bring them in when they are dry rather than leave them out too long they don't get "crunchy". I do use the dryer a bit in winter but there are so many things that I can't put in there so have to hang over hoists inside.
Another thing I have learnt from the Peas - that there are places that don't allow you to have a clothesline! In Australia there would be an outcry, we are very attached to our Hills Hoists here LOL

I try to always hang my sheets out during the summer. I will also hang shirts out on hangers.

Whenever I hang laundry out, I throw it in the dryer with a damp washcloth for about 5 minutes to soften it up after it's done on the line. I still get the smell of outdoor drying without the crunchiness.

When I came home and saw the washing I just burst out laughing, and snapped a photo to send to my neighbour with the caption "When boys hang out washing" as I knew she'd appreciate it. We often exchange boy stories!

I do! I just recently got a clothesline put up. hadn't had one since a kid at home. We always had to hang out the laundry - and bring it in (and fold it and put it away). AND race to get it down if it started to rain.
I love having a clothesline. Now if I just had a washer...

Right now I only hang cloth diapers outside on a rack. I don't bother with anything else because I don't have a line. I'd love to get one though.

I don't have a clothesline. It's just so easy to throw the load in the dryer. Some clothing I hang to dry, but never outside, and I use liquid Downy so they always smell nice.

I love line-dried sheets! Unfortunately I don't have a clothesline, but when I did I hung them outside. But those are about the only things. I do take some things out of the dryer while still damp and hang them inside.
