My washer and dryer are in completely different parts of the house, but it's only really a problem for part of the year, as I prefer to hang washing outside to dry naturally. The biggest advantage of course is that it doesn't cost anything, but I also love how clothes smell when they've dried outside. I live in Central Scotland, and some days my washing is in and out several times because of rain showers, but I still hang clothes out on the line.
Do people still hang out washing in other parts of the Peadom?

With the exception of things like sheets and towels, I hang up the majority of clothes outside. I live in Florida, so I might as well make all that sun work for me.

My dryer is the size of a bucket and I have no control over the heat, so most things are dried outside or else they become doll clothes...
Except that it has rained for the past three days, so right now, laundry is hanging from every inch of hanging space inside...

I used to but after we had siding put on the house, we never reattached the clothesline. I love the smell of fresh air clothes and linens! I'd hang everything outside and use the dryer for fluffing afterwards when necessary. Oh, I sure do miss it!

I'm quite lazy so only want to hang out washing when I know I won't be running out to get it when it rains! The weather at the moment is so nice it would be crazy not to hang it out. I'm central (ish) Scotland too.

Not me. Not ever. Won't even allow my husband to put up a single line! LOL! I have horrid memories as teenager of hanging clothes up in the dead of winter (no dryer available). It was so useless as the darn things would just freeze instead of dry. I vowed I would NEVER hang out clothes when I grew up. I haven't had to break that vow even once.

We got out of the habit when we lived in a subdivision that they were not allowed in. I also think it helps my youngest's allergies to not have his stuff outside collecting all the things he's allergic too.
We don't dry everything, so we hang a bunch in the laundry room or some things on the chairs in the kitchen.

(although living in FL...I won't be as dramatic about the dead of winter...but it was still cold...hands were still red)
I hated hanging clothes out on the line as a kid. I hated wearing clothes hung on the line as a kid. Stiff and smelly. (no amount of "fluff time" in the dryer would soften our clothes)
Our HOA would never allow a clothesline...so I'm in the clear. But even if they did, I'd never hang things out to dry.

Me, I love hanging clothes out. I love the smell and I love that I can hang things in the order I want to take them off the line.
If I hang my socks in pairs then as I take them off they go into the basket already matched.

I have had to dry them outside. When the dry was broken. Never again. They always come out stiff. Unless they are things that are very thin material. Jeans and towels are boards and scratchy when hung outside.

Oh, I just love washing that is hung on the line! In the winter I hang things inside to dry and they take forever and never smell good. I love it when the weather gets good enough to hang washing outside. I don't have space for a dryer in my house.

I love to but currently don't have a clothesline. I do love the smell of sheets that have been dried on the line!

I'm the exact opposite - I love to hang sheets and towels on the line, but almost never bother with clothes. I love climbing into a bed with sheets that smell like a sunny & breezy day. And I love "crunchy" towels.

I always had to hang clothes outside when I was a kid. I hated it. We had a clothes line but I had it taken down years ago. I'd rather the smell of dryer sheets then whatever smell is going around my town. When my dryer was broken we washed our clothes at the house and then hauled them to the next town over to dry them because they have a nicer Laundromat.

We live in Chicago and my mom and my DH hang out. My mom is the best laundry lady in the world--she does laundry every Saturday and get's it done early in case the neighbors are having company. She "saves" certain items to wash when it's nice out and a good breeze so they dry nice w/out wrinkles.
My DH will hang out the sheets and some of his uniform pieces. I'm a hit and miss I usually don't like to take the time to hang out.

I love to hang clothes outside! I also dry cloth diapers outside too! I only hang a couple loads a week since that's the only days I have time to.

I hated hanging laundry outside when I was young. I remember trying to use clothespins with mittens on my hands. And the blue jean that froze and could stand up by themselves. That was 50 years ago! 12 years ago when we built this house on our 5 acres, I HAD to have a clothesline again! Prior to that, when I went to visit Mom in CT, I have the cutest photo of DD's tiny little clothes hanging out side on Mom's clothesline, I will scrap that one day....
I prefer my towels in the dryer, but, I am trying to be economical over the Summer when I am not working.

We hang all bedding, blankets and curtains outside for that wonderful outdoor smell. My husband likes to hang his work clothes on the line, too.

I hated hanging the clothes out when I was a kid. I didn't really like the stiffness of many items when they dried on the line.
I never do that now. I have allergies and it's better not to hang them out where they can pick up pollen and whatever else is floating around. It probably would have been better for me as a kid if my clothes and sheets had not been hung outside to dry.

I have an old fashioned 4 line clothes line. (I do hate to brag - ha) I love to hang out towels and bedding. I hand wash alot of my tops and usually hang them outside. Bras and panties get hung outside because I never put them in the dryer. Fortunately my clothes lines are in a spot where they are not visible to any neighbors.

I hang laundry out to dry when I can. I love the way it smells of fresh air when it is brought in, and I love bath towels which have been line dried and are really rough. Odd I know, when most people like them soft and fluffy.
Can't have unmatching pegs on an item of laundry though. Oh no.

I'm really surprised by how many people still hang things out on a line. I do hang delicates and nicer clothers to dry in the house - in the laundry room or on the shower rod if I have a ton. But I don't think I have ever had my clothes or linens hung outside. I can't remember my mom or either of my grandmothers doing it and I grew up in the country. I wouldn't mind having a line for huge things that are hard to dry like comforters, but I know I would never go to the effort of packing a whole load of clothes outside. I hate folding and put that off as it is. I would likely forget about them and they would get rained on.

I hang mine outside unless it's raining. I love the smell of clothes that have dried in the fresh air and I love how crisp clean sheets feel when they've been line dried. Aside from that, playing on the hills hoist was one of the true joys as a kid, even if Dad did have to eventually fix the clothesline to make it stand up straight again. Our backyard sloped so we get a good run up on the high part of the lawn then swing around over the lower parts and if we were lucky we'd swing all the way back to the high side again.

I almost exclusively hang things outside to dry. We have a dryer but could probably count on both hands the amount of times I've used it in the last 8 years. I think it's a climate thing though. Where I live the coldest it gets is about average max temperature in winter is still around 12 degrees celcius. I do also use an inside clothes horse in winter.

I love sheets and towels that have that fresh smell from outside on them. Until last summer, I hung out just about everything except underwear. Then my husband told me that he doesn't like towels that are hung out, they are too rough for his delicate skin, this, after 31 years of me hanging them out. So now I put his towel in the dryer with the underwear, everything else goes outside!

I do, but mostly just in Summer - doing that on this coast in Winter here is just a waste of time and I detest hanging things around the house to dry! I have a Bosch dryer that automatically senses when a load is dry so that does save on electricity. Even in Summer I put things through the dryer for a few minutes to fluff them up though.

I do have a dryer but I only use it if it's really necessary. I usually line dry outside. Nothing like a nice breezy day to dry a line of laundry. I find it's a lot easier to iron too than it is if it's been dried in a dryer.
