I was really tempted by HSN yesterday, but went to bed without pushing the order button.

There has been some major bad mojo from some of the Cricut users. Their website was down, servers out, or something along those lines ... for a fair amount of time. When that happens - you can not use the machine at all. At all.
I know this is probably a fairly rare occurrence, but it would piss me off to no end. That's why I stick with the Silhouette.

I am intrigued with the machine because it has a few features that my Silhouette doesn't, but I see all the complaints about the outages. I have a Silhouette already and it may be on my someday wishlist. I have some old Cricuts that I'm hanging on to. My kids love them and they are easy for them to use with the cartridges. I'm happy with my Cameo for now. It amazes me every time I use it.

What features are you looking for? I wish the Cameo could cut a little heavier material. I have been trying to cut the Silhouette chipboard and it hasn't gone well. It needs a double cut, and even with a new mat - I get shifting so the cuts are off.

They are working hard on fixing all those problems and are sorry for all the unexpected outages. They hope that they will work all the kinks to the new Design Space soon. The CEO has posted on FB and other places that they know this must be a frustrating time for crafters. But they have been having problems with Design Space. Everyone is getting a free 2 weeks subscription for now. I am on a free 3 month so this will now take me to the end of April. And yeah, it does suck when you can't use the machine however the CEO has been upfront that they are working on Design Space to be more stable.

It sounds as though the Cricut Air is an entirely new version of the Explore? So those who bought the first Explore would have to buy a new machine in order to have the features of the Cricut Air?

Scrapnnana - I think the Cricut Air has embedded Bluetooth capability vs having to plug in a dongle. The Cricut Explore Air is the same platform as the original Explore. I have seen women buy a new machine simply because it is a different color - LOL! Cricut faithful are an interesting bunch!

No it's Design Space that has changed. They have had bugs with the program. However they did big changes when the Explore Air came out (only differences are colour and Air has the BlueTooth adapter already in it). The tech team is working on fixing all the new bugs showing up. I also read a post that indicated that they have a lot of new owners and since Design Space uses the Cloud, this has caused a bit of a problem.

Glad to hear they are working the bugs out. Every company has some kind of issue. Silhouette did a horrendous update a while back, but they worked quickly to fix it. People are still PO'ed about it though - lol!
It is good to hear the new CEO is better with customer service. They about cut their throat in the past. I am still never going to go back - but I do hear the Explore is a nice machine. It just isn't what I want. The deeper cut would be fantastic though.

The only difference between the 2 machines is the Air has built in bluetooth. If you have the first Explore you have to have the dongle to have bluetooth. No biggie.

Thanks for answering. I hated the dongle on my Gazelle.
I would love the ability to cut leather, but other than that, I am happy with my Cameo. I still like to know what is happening in the cutting world, though.

I still like to know what is happening in the cutting world, though. I was actually quite surprised by the dongle on the regular Explore. I figured it would stick out like a flash drive. It actually goes almost all the way inside the machine. Only sticks out maybe 1/4 to 1/2 inch. I just leave it in all the time. I'm not worried about it breaking off or anything like that.

I have an old cricut create I use with sure cuts a lot software but have a cameo on my Wishlist. Only being able to use a machine hooked up to design space and online would frustrate me - and I've heard a lot of complaints about outages etc.

Have the regular Explore with the bluetooth adapter...love it. Cuts beautifully...I love that I can use all my cartridges and the Print then Cut has made me love my "kiddie cartridges" The Air is the same as the Explore but with built in bluetooth.

I used the Print then Cut for a Steampunk card box. I found 4 images to use and was surprised at how easy it was to do. I also found a gear pattern in a square in Design Space. I cut them at 2.5 to put on the flaps and was delighted that the Explore could cut the small cuts beautifully at the size I wanted. My Expression 2 would've torn the image apart. I was hesitant to get the Explore because of the always on line thing but now I'm glad I got it. My sister loves John Barrowman as Jack Harkness in Doctor Who/Torchwood. I've already grabbed a cool image of Jack and will look for other related stuff for her card box.

I sold my Expressions and thought I wanted to upgrade.....then I decided not to and now I'm searching for another Expression lol. I may have to check out the Explore until the Air issues get worked out.
