What a fun tradition! Our biggest "fair" would be the Iowa State Fair, which I have also been to every year for as long as I can remember!

The two most well known are the Octoberfest in Munich and the Christkindlmarkt in Nurnberg. But there are various Kerwes (carnivals) and Fests throughout the year and for differing reasons. I've been to so many I've lost count! The Christkindlmarkt is special to me because I visited there as a child and was able to take my children there this past year.

The Minnesota State Fair is a pretty big deal around here. It is very crowded and can get expensive, though, so we usually don't attend.

I have never been to a state fair and only been to a county fair once. Guess my parents weren't into that and I just never thought about going unless I see a commercial for it and think, oh that would be fun. Oh well.

We use to have an Italian Festival that people came home for from all over for but volunteers got few and far between so it's been canceled the last 5 or 6 years maybe longer. This year is the 100 year anniversary of the church that runs it so they are having it this year but that's it forever. So sad. We use to have a block party run by different fire companies and festivals run by churches nearly every weekend of summer but no one wants to volunteer to help anymore so we only have a few any more. We have a Heritage Day parade that's popular and Kielbasi Festival that is nice but people don't come from far away for those.

We have the Corn Palace Stampede Rodeo in July--next weekend. There is a parade on Saturday that is always fun. Some years we have had the Budweiser horses, and we have also had the Wells Fargo Stagecoach at the parade (it's a big deal to have either come for a parade in your town. HOWEVER, the Corn Palace Festival in August is the 'big fair.' There is entertainment at the Corn Palace every night for the week, and rides on main street, etc.

We have a little county fair but we live in the sticks so it's not all that exciting. The closest fair that is really good is over in Paso Robles (Central CA coast) and it's huge. They get fantastic concerts every year. We are going to be on vacation not far from there this year and may go check it out - I'm always up for good fair food.

The Christkindlmarkt is special to me because I visited there as a child and was able to take my children there this past year. The Christkindlmarkts were my favorite part of living in Germany. I was there for 3 years and the first year I was back in the states I cried because I missed Christmas so badly.

we have a town festival that is just for locals but our biggest deal is the Cruise Days hosted by our local A&W. It brings in car enthusiasts from all over the area. It's a lot of fun.

Our county fair is so small that we don't usually go. We do go to the Strawberry festival and state fair every year though. They are pretty big events so the county fair seems like nothing.

We have the Spokane County Interstate Fair in September every year. I just looked to see who is coming in concert and their web site is broken It's stupidly expensive but we go every year anyway, so my husband can try to shoot out that stupid Red star at the Midway game booths.

How fun! I grew up going to the Los Angeles County Fair & worked there for a couple of summers. Loved it and miss it, now here in Ohio don't even know if they have one but then again too hot/humid for me to enjoy outside all day anyway.

We have the Great Frederick Fair every September; pretty much your typical county fair type. Then, there's the annual Oktoberfest shortly afterwards. They're fun.

Calgary Stampede here too.
I used to go to the Stampede every year, but not anymore. The space between years gets longer and longer, and now we only go every 4 or 5 years.
Traffic going in this morning was crazy!!! Kids day on the grounds, so everybody in the city with kids must have been on their way down!

The North Dakota State Fair is 8 miles from my house. I've probably only missed going ten times in the last 55 years.
We also have the biggest Scandinavian Festival in the US here every fall and people come from all over the world for it. I rarely miss it either.

Growing up in Washington state, it was the Puyallup Fair (late August into mid-September). Each school district in the general vicinity used to get free tickets (one per student) and have a fair day (specific day to use the ticket). Within the last couple of years it has been renamed the Western Washington State Fair, it will always be the Puyallup Fair to me.
Here on Oahu, I guess, it is the 50th State Fair which is only over the course of a few weekends in a row (not during the week). Have driven by it, because you can see it from the highway. Do not plan to ever go to it, because it will never, ever compare to the Puyallup Fair.

Here in my city, we have the GYC (Greensboro Youth Carnival) a couple of times a year. In the next city over, the Dixie Classic Fair happens in the fall, and the NC State Fair is in October in Raleigh. I the state fair.

The Delaware State Fair which starts next week. We'll be seeing Lady Antebellum this year. I bought the tickets as Christmas gifts for us, DS and his girlfriend. It's her favorite group and it also happens to be her birthday so it should be a fun night.
