It's probably joke but what exactly is it supposed to be? Distribute detergent?

It doesn't dispense anything. SMH. You sync it to your smartphone Amazon account and press when you want to reorder. There is a paragraph explaining this on the linked page. Pretty cool idea!

It's real and it's free for prime members. In fact they are going to have it integrated into products like washing machines, coffee makers, Brita pitchers, etc.

While a neat idea I won't be using it. Amazon is more expensive than what I can find on sale at the store.

It appears to be a WiFi device that works through an Amazon app on your smartphone to automatically order a product when you press the button on the device and get a green light. So yeah.. you could possibly have these little button things all over your house if you so wanted.

And honestly on subscribe and save I have a very hard time beating amazons prices. They offer coupons as well. Even places like sams club usually can't match for some items.

I think it's ingenious! I need to go look at the brands they offer and decide which ones I want. It drives me crazy when dh tells me at the world's worst moment (like when I'm in the shower) that he's out of (shaving cream, razors, bodywash, yada yada) then is annoyed when I forget to buy it (apparently we all suck at lists) If he could just press the button when he's low that'd be perfect.

The only product I use in the 10 pages of items is the Glad trash bags. It would be nice to reorder from Amazon because I often find my local Walmart out of that particular type when I need to restock my supply.

I think I would put all the little buttons in one location, probably attached to the inside of my laundry room cupboard. I do shop from Amazon for most of these types of things; toilet paper, paper plates, laundry soap, etc. even my dog food. It'd be handier to just press the button because I'm always saying, "Oh, I have to order more xxx, then if I don't do it right then, I forget. Just another convenience brought to you by Amazon. They're always thinking, aren't they?

Our copy machine at work orders its own toner - seems like an evolution along the same lines. Pretty smart concept. I never do automatic reorders because I don't know when I'll run out of something. This leaves it in my hands (and the hands of whatever I accidentally push into the button).

I can see people with toddlers being surprised with frequent detergent deliveries. They say in the FAQ that it won't send out multiple packages. Only one once it's pushed and not another until that is received. People would just need to keep them out of reach like anything else.

Kind of seems like Vegas for the household..push the button and we'll just take it from your card which is hooked up to your visa..and then pile on some alcohol so you are happy to be spending and gambling without seeing the immediate damage.
Hard to think about the overall cost if you just push a button to get something. Perhaps you review the price ahead of time or something is agreed upon as part of the service. Would hate to end up pay $10 for something my local store sells on sale for $5 and then find out later when I see my cc charged.
ETA - Ok I see on their webpage you agree on your price ahead of time.

I think I read that you will receive a notice through your Amazon app on your smartphone that an order has been placed and you can cancel at that point if the order is in error. I think it would be smart to place the buttons behind a locked door or cabinet though if you have curious kids in the house.

It is a great idea for professionals and busy parents that don't have the time and use Amazon Prime. I hope I'm never so busy that I can't run to the store for what I need.

They need to build that into the Echo. "Alexa - order toilet paper, please."

In fact they are going to have it integrated into products like washing machines, coffee makers, Brita pitchers, etc. Just to add.....that link says it is for prime members by invitation only. You need to get a special email and make up your mind within 7 days. I think it also said you can only get 3 while supplies last.

I can see people with toddlers being surprised with frequent detergent deliveries. If someone is dumb enough to put that thing in toddler reach they deserve a semi full of laundry detergent delivered to their front door!
